It turned out I had to stay for four long, dreary days, filled with complaints that I was "dying of bordom." After I had called back Isaac, we met at Funky Bones. Staring at the kids jump from rib to rib, shoulder to skull, I realized how much I missed being "normal." No cancer to hold me back. Then came Isaac, still on his mother's arm.

"Hey, Isaac. Not Monica. Just Support Group Hazel," I said. His mom transfered his arm to my arm.

"Hey, Hazel. Not Gus," he said, his voice cracking. "Just Support Group Isaac." I gulped. We sat on a bench.

"Um, so I have some news," I started hesitantly.

"What's the news?" he said patiently. For once, I was glad that he was blind so he couldn't see my conflicted emotions.

"OH MY GOD!" I exclaimed suddenly and loudly. "SCREW this!" Then in a quieter voice, I whispered, "Isaac, please don't be too pissed off at me, but Augustus and I- Isaac, I'm pregnant."

Silence.

Dead, uninterrupted silence as I waited impatiently.

"Oh, God, Hazel," he said. "Are you sure?" I could tell he was breathing hard.

"Yes, Isaac. I'm sure. I'm sure and I'm sorry." I couldn't look him in the eye.

"Hazel, I'm not mad at you." He took a deep breath. "I'm just surprised." I looked up. His blond hair glinted in the sunlight.

That's when I started crushing on him.

When I was confessing my pregnancy.
