"So phase three..." Armonia started once we got home. "Is making L fall in love with you? That's stupid."
"Have you never read The Grand Inquisitor?" I asked and he shook his head. I sighed and rubbed my temples.
"To think of all this time you've been with me... never read a single one of my books..." I shook my head and picked up The Brothers Karamazov from my bag.
"Chapter five in this book is called the Grand Inquisitor. It's a poem about the Spanish Inquisition. Jesus Christ comes back and starts healing the sick, and the man, the Grand Inquisitor, throws Jesus in jail. The Inquisitor then explains to Jesus that he should've never given humanity the choice between good and evil, as humans will always pick evil." I said.
"The Inquisitor goes on to say that as humans will always choose evil, they need someone to put them in order, force them to choose good, as to save them from themselves." I finished.
"I'm... not understanding." Armonia shook his head, sitting at the table across from me.
"L is a man of justice, isn't he? He, in this scenario, is Jesus. I, Nietzsche, am playing the part of the Grand Inquisitor. I'm showing him and all of humanity, that no matter what happens, people will always choose evil. Those kids yesterday fucking murdered a room of innocent adults to save themselves, without question. It's as I've been saying, people will eat each other."
I took a breath and sighed. "Humanity even did it to Jesus Christ himself, our so-called savior. Humanity threw him to the curb to get a prize. Judas sold out Jesus for silver." I said.
"And that's what you plan to do with L pull a Judas. I remember you saying it was working, but not in the way you intended. What did you mean?" Armonia asked.
"I planned from the start to have some figure, some White Knight, fall. I've been planning for L to fall. I didn't expect to fall myself." I said and put my face in my hands in shame.
"L was right. I've been letting my emotions get the better of me. I've been reckless. And here I am, wanting to hold his hand, kiss him, make him smile... and stupid shit like that." I huffed.
"You're in love." Armonia chuckled. "Thought I'd never see the day."
"Fuck off." I groaned.
There was a knock on my door and I got up and looked through the peephole before opening the door in surprise. "Mom?!"
"Hi, sweetie. Thought I'd come to visit now that you're trying to take over the world with your philosophies." She hummed and came in, rolling in a large bag with some others outside.
I watched the small woman with a purple scarf around her head make herself at home as I made tea.
"You couldn't have called first? I didn't pick up." I sighed.
"Nat, I'm your mother. I'm used to your messes." She rolled her eyes, then locked her eyes on my coloring book, then sat and looked through them.
"Oh Nat, these are beautiful. You always were great at picking colors." She hummed. "What detail!"
"How good is she at keeping secrets?" Armonia asked and I sighed.
"Mom, there's someone you should meet," I said and grabbed my Death Note, and she took it, then looked over to Armonia.
"This is Armonia. He's a God. A God of Death. He's sort of possessing me." I said and she hummed.
"Shiny. He's your type. I know you love shiny things." Mom smiled and he laughed.
"I like her." He hummed and I took the Death Note back and served the tea. "Do you know how mean your daughter is? She threatens to starve me if I don't do her dirty work..."
"Would you shut it? I've never actually starved you, now have I?" I sighed, sitting down. "Anyway, mom, shouldn't you be resting?" I asked.
"And worry about my girl getting hurt halfway across the world? Are you crazy?" She snapped and sipped her tea. "No way. I'm here to make sure you don't do anything stupid."
"Too late." Armonia scoffed and mom glared.
"What did she do?" Mom asked and I hid my face in my arms.
"She fell in love." He answered.
"Ah. That is quite stupid, Nat." Mom said.
"Yeah. I know." I groaned.
"So... are we gonna take her to headquarters? That would be interesting." Armonia asked.
"Headquarters?" Mom asked and I looked up.
"The task force headquarters for the Kira Investigation. I'm close with L. Oh, mom, you'll have to call me Nietzsche. And don't mention Armonia. I know it's hard, but if anyone's around, just pretend he doesn't exist." I said and she nodded.
"Hey..." Armonia whined.

FanfictionI'd like to say our story started when I was handed the Death Note by the golden, bejeweled Death God, but that's not the true beginning of my story if I'm being honest. No, my story started years in advance, before this murder book found its way to...
