"Is it Alyssa?... Is Alyssa Steal on the line?" The man asks.
I don't move or say anything for a moment, not knowing why a stranger is calling me. What does he want? Is it about Liam? Or mom? Is everything okay?
Many questions cross my mind and make me getting more nervous about what could have happened. I make many films inside my head, imagining the worst scenarios and getting anxious but the man pulls me out of my deep thoughts.
"Miss?..." He tries again.
"What? Umm... yeah, it's me. I mean... I am Alyssa Steal." I say not even asking who's talking with me because of the stress.
"Let me introduce myself. I am Edward Mayer, the boss' assistant of the Inkonica agency..." A sigh of relief escapes from my mouth when I hear him saying that sentence. "I'm calling you because you applied a few days ago to do an internship in our photography agency and it seems like we need someone..." He continues his speech about my application and I let him finish until the end. "So... Could you come to the agency for an appointment to see if you have the perfect profile to work with us?" He finishes.
I try to think about this as fast as I can to give him an answer but I'm too happy and too shocked. I didn't believe that there will be an agency that would like me to work with them.
"Hello?" The man says and makes me realize that I didn't give him an answer so I just try to put the things together in my head to build a sentence that may be understandable.
"Yeah... Yeah, of course, I would love to!" I finally respond.
"Can you come tomorrow at 4 pm?" He asks and I don't wait even a second to reply.
"Yes. I'll be there at 4 pm."
We both say goodbye and hang up.
I put my phone back in my pocket and get back to Josh with a huge smile on my face but it fades when I see my superior waiting for me where I should be instead of talking on the phone. She's standing in front of me with her crossed arms and gives me a look that could kill me if it was possible. Her gaze is terrifying enough to understand that if I do it again she'll fire me.
She doesn't say anything and gets back at her activities.
"If I was you, I'll never do it again" He says in my ear and chuckles. "What is making you smile that way? Is it your boyfriend?" His question makes me frown but i immediately remember the call and turn back to face him. I grab his arm and look at him so happy. "Are you about to tell me or will you stay like that with your stupid smile?" He says and I let off his arm.
"I got a call from an agency for my internship and they want to see me tomorrow!" I say while I serve someone.
"I'm so happy for you, you deserve it, sweetie." he says and we keep on talking about random stuff even if we're working and serving people.
At the end of our service, we say goodbye and go home.

"Hello? Is anyone here?" I ask entering home and knowing that my mom and brother would be here.
I hear Liam running down the stairs and he hugs me when he reaches me.
"Is Jack's mom who dropped you home?" I ask and he nods.
"Mom talked to me but I feel like she's not really good..." He says and I kneel down to be at his height.
"Go back to your room Superman, I'll talk to her". I say and kiss his forehead when I stand up.
We both walk upstairs but he enters his room while I knock on my mom's door.
"Mom?" I ask and open the door.
She's in her bed, under the cover as if she was freezing. I walk toward her and try to talk with her but she's not able to. Her face is blader than usually and her lips blue.
I get up and take another cover from her wardrobe to put it on her.
"If you don't get better in a few days, I'll bring you to the hospital." I say and lean in to kiss her forehead.
I walk out the room and whisper an "I love you" before I close the door.
I cook something for Liam to eat before he goes to sleep and I warm some water to make a tea for mom. I put the cup of tea on the nightstand next to my mom and read a little story to Liam after he ate and took his shower.
"Good night my little Superman." I whisper and close his door.
