That night as they lay in bed, both of them stared up at the ceiling, unable to sleep. Miharu let out a small sigh.
"Can't sleep?"Itachi whispered. She turned her head to the side and gazed at him.
"No, not really,"She murmured in response. He hummed. After another moment of silence, he spoke again.
"Can I ask....about your parents?"Itachi murmured. She flinched. "It's fine...if you won't tell me. But I have something you might want to know...." Miharu snorted.
"Your father killed my parents, I already know,"Miharu told him. Itachi's eyes widened and he turned his head to face her, surprised to find her eyes connecting with his. She gave a sad smile. "Nishiki told me...actually." She turned her gaze down. Itachi focused on her in the dark, admiring how the moonlight that was drifting through the open curtains shined onto her face. His hand itched to touch her face and caress her skin.
"I'm sorry,"He told her quietly. She opened her eyes and surprised him by propping up and placing her hand on his cheek gently.
"Don't be. When I found out....I was mad, but right now I know it was my parents fault for getting them involved with the Yakuza in the first place. They never told us because they didn't want Michiko and I to get sucked into their world,"Miharu told him. She suddenly cracked a grin. "It's kind of funny, here I am engaged to a Yakuza clan boss. Isn't that a coincidence?" She removed her hand and laid back down, gazing at him. His eyes traced over her face, looking for any weakness. He only detected slight sadness, but no hatred as he'd expected.
"What were they like?"Itachi asked her. She blinked in surprise and let a small smile.
"My family was very fun,"Miharu told him. She closed her eyes, turning her face to the ceiling again, remembering. "We always listened to music together. They always came to my recitals. We always had family nights. My mother, she was beautiful and smart, someone I'd looked up to. My father was a little strict, but that's because I was his second oldest, but oldest daughter. He didn't want to hand me over, so he refused to let me date." She fell silent for a moment. When she spoke again, her words surprised him. "They might've approved of you, if you weren't Yakuza. You're exactly how they'd want a guy I was to marry to be like. Kind, upheld. Strong enough to provide protection. Classy." Itachi was stunned into silence.
"M-Miharu,"he suddenly murmured. This is it, I have to tell her. Itachi thought. Her face turned towards him again. "Let's play a game." Itachi, what the hell, that's not what you want! She blinked at him.
"Hmm, what game?"She asked. Miharu's eyes gazed at him with such an intensity that he felt his heart skip a beat.
"Two truths and a lie,"Itachi answered. Miharu wrinkled her eyebrows. "I'm going to tell you three things. You guess which one is a lie, alright?" Miharu sighed.
"Alright I guess. Do I get a turn after?"She asked. He nodded. She nodded at him. After that they sat up and he turned a lamp on, so they could see each other's faces. "Shoot for it. I'm ready."
"Okay...here we go,"Itachi spoke. His eyes closed. "One. When I was eighteen, I travelled to England with my parents." She tilted her head to the side. "Two, when I turned five, I fell down a well and broke my leg." Miharu snorted and opened her mouth to say something but he held his hand up. "And three, when Sasuke was born, I hid in my room for three months." Miharu put her hand on her chin.
"Uh....I believe one and three,"She guessed. He blinked. She got it.
"You're right, your turn,"he told her. She thought hard and then spoke.
"Okay. One, when I was five I learned how to play the violin,"Miharu began. Itachi wrinkled his nose. That can't be true. What five year old play's a violin? "Two, when Nishiki was six he glued my hand to a door." Itachi snorted. I can see that happening. "And Three, my birthday is on March fifteenth." Itachi frowned. Shit, I can't remember when her birthday is! Itachi thought long and hard.
