Carter’s POV:
I had my arms crossed, looking at Jake, “Can you please tell me again, why Harry and Louis are riding with us? I mean, Harry has his own car, or maybe he forgot to mention that small detail to you?”
Jake threw my luggage to the back of the SUV, glancing right back at me, “Oh come on Carter. Isn’t he your best friend? And by the way, taking three cars to an amusement park is uncalled for. The gas prices these days are bloody insane!”
I raised my eyebrow at him. Did he just use the term bloody? “Okay, you just got off your flight not even three hours ago. Can you take the British wording down a notch dear brother? And I will pay for his fuel!”
Jake rolled his eyes at me, only causing my fists to clench tighter. “You’re being ridiculous Carter. Harry and Louis are fucking fantastic.” He grabbed William’s keys and threw them up in the air, aiming to catch them, but I got a hold of them first.
“You’re supposed to be the protective big brother you dumbass. And hello! I freaking made a promise to you remember? You said no boys! You should clearly be pissed off! I mean news-freaking-flash! My best friend is a boy!” I wanted Jake to be pissed. Some part of me wanted him to be the badass brother that gets upset when their sister spends time with a boy. But nope. With Trevor he was, but he never trusted Trevor. When I see him laughing with Harry, already making jokes, everything felt…weird. He built a friendship with someone that knows me more than I know myself. Someone that ticked me off, but makes me laugh in the process. They built a bromance in a matter of two hours. How the hell can guys get along so easily while it takes girls forever to become friends? Life is unfair.
“And that didn’t stop you, now did it?” He grabbed the keys out of my hand, holding a lopsided grin. “You are terrible at keeping promises. Have been since you found out you could cross your fingers behind your back in order to get yourself out of an agreement. And Harry told me you are capable of protecting yourself. He said you kneed him in the balls once, and you have an excellent arm. So those softball lessons worked, didn’t they?” Jake nudged me causing me to knock me off balance. “I know you are able to make your own decisions. You made the decision to come over here, didn’t you? And I can see you are doing exceptionally well. I trust who you are spending your free time with, I see you are content. Your roommates are perfect. You have Leslie, who is quiet but sweet and then you have Natalie who speaks the first thing that comes to her mind. It’s as if you guys balance each other out. You’re the boring one, mixed with sarcasm that is not necessary.”
I punched him playfully on his shoulder, “You’re an ass.”
“But I’m your brother, so I’m allowed to be an ass. Well to you and Spencer.” He pulled down at my ponytail, “And I met that guy Noah. He is nice. Clean cut and respectful. Someone I picture you with, actually.”
The nonexistent heat of England finally decided to come out and suffocate me. I could feel sweat forming behind my neck.
“You talked to Noah?” I chocked out
“Yeah, he was there when I was playing FIFA with Lou and Harry. He told me they are his roommates, and he even said you guys share several classes. It was mostly small talk, but I can tell he takes a liking in you. Not as much as Harry does, I mean I can tell Harry is fond of you. Who knew you would be likable in such a short time?”
“Shut the hell up.” I took his hoodie and tried to pull it down his head, but since he was almost a foot taller than me, I failed completely.
He ruffled his blonde hair and laughed, “But Noah is a really nice guy. Far from Harry. He seems good. Harry on the other hand, he likes to ask a lot of questions. Wants to get to know who you are. I think…”
