I woke up by a pair of feet kicking my sides lightly and the familiar voice of my father shouting at me. "Wake up, damnit."

My eyes felt beyond heavy and I couldn't seem to have the power in me to open them completely, so I just peeked through one eye before I covered my face with both of my hands and groaned, "What?"

"Why the hell are you sleeping on the stairs? Get up!" My father shouted again which only caused my growing headache to get worse. His voice was unendurable when he raised it, especially during the morning hours so I leaned my head back against the staircase and tried to block it out. "Miles!"

I moaned in pain when I tried to sit up straight because my spine was braced and I had a cramp on the back of my neck. I tried to massage my neck but only winced in pain again when I did the wrong move. "What do you want?" I mumbled without opening my eyes to look at his face due to the soreness in my right eye.

"I demand answers, son. When did you come home and why did you sleep on the damn staircase?" he questioned while tapping his feet against the wooden floor. When I peeped at him through my eyelashes, I noticed that he was in a bad mood and that upset me even more. He was about to let his anger out on me like he always does instead of solving his problems with whoever created them in the first place. "Is that... Is that human blood on your shirt?"

I sighed out loud while pulling my body up from its position to stand right in front of him but every single move added more pain to my already hurting body and muscles. "I got cheated on and I had a fight because of that."

"A fight? What the... How many more times do I need to tell you to stop this nonsense? When will you finally get rid of your childish behavior?!" he screamed, folding his arms in front of his chest while the vein on his neck popped out. This time my mother came rushing towards the staircase with confusion written all over her pale face. Great, she's the least person I needed to see right now.

"It is none of your business!" I shouted right back. "And yes this is human blood on my shirt because I was drunk and angry and I let my anger out on a person who deserved it." Once I finished my sentence, I pulled the dirty shirt over my head and threw it at his face, earning a strong slap from him afterwards.

I bit down onto my already bruised bottom lip and winced in agony as I shut my eyes tightly. "Stop being so disrespectful towards me. How many more times do I need to teach you to be respectful towards your parents, huh? Go look at yourself in the mirror, just look at you. Look at your knuckles, your lips, your swollen right eye. When will this stop? When will you finally grow up? And then you have the audacity to come here complaining that some girl cheated on you. If you keep acting this way, even your next girlfriend will cheat on you - why? Because women want men by their sides, not kids."

I swallowed the deep lump in my throat before I turned around to walk into my room but he didn't let me go. He had a tight grip on my elbow but my body felt numb so it didn't even bother me at all. "Not finished yet?"

"I am sick of you, Miles. You either learn to behave or you leave. Understood? And now go lock yourself into your room and don't come downstairs until you've thought about your actions and the concequences of your actions," he demanded as he took one step closer to me with a condescending look in his brown eyes. "Perhaps take a shower before you do."

After he finally dismissed me, I jerked away from his grip and rushed up the stairs but stopped for a brief moment when I had to walk past my mother. I looked her in the eyes and saw nothing but disgust and disappointment in them - like always. She just shook her head at me while pushing her eyebrows together before she disappeared downstairs. They loved to punish me, blame me, make me feel worthless and I couldn't and didn't want to deal with that anymore. I may be a bad son, but they are even worse parents.
