"The Volturi are a very old, very powerful family." Edward described as the four of us were in Carlisle's study. "I guess they're the closest thing to royalty that our kind has."
"Is that Carlisle?" I asked.
"Yeah. He lived with them for a few decades after he turned." Emmett explained. "Described them as very refined. No respect for human life, of course, but a respect for the arts and the sciences, at least. And the law. Above all, the law."
"Vampires have laws?" Bella asked.
"Not as so much laws as just common sense. At least to the other kind of vampires, the old ones." I added.
"Sky's right. But not every many. And only one that's regularly enforced." Edward nodded.
"And that's is?" Bella asked.
"That we keep the existence of our kind a secret." Emmett said.
"That we don't make spectacles of ourselves, and we don't kill conspicuously. Unless, of course, you want to die." Edward added.
"You have to stop talking about that..... I can't even think...... About someone hurting you." Bella stated.
Emmett and I took this as our que to leave.
"So the Volturi, what would they do if they found out about me?" I asked a little worried.
"You don't have to worry about that." Emmett assured.
"How do you know?" I asked with a frown.
"There are always ways to keep the Volturi in the dark." Emmett said as Alice came downstairs after fetching Bella.
"Sorry about all this. We tried to rein Alice in." Carlisle apologized with a smile.
"As if that were even possible." Esme laughed pulling Bella and I into a hug. "Happy Birthday girls."
"Thanks." Bella and I smiled then turned to Alice who was holding Bella and I's cameras.
"I found them in your bags. You mind?" Alice asked sheepishly.
"No. Your fine." I laughed.
"Dating an older woman. Hot." Emmett teased Edward as I playfully slapped him on the chest when he pulled me closer by my waist. "What?"
"You first Rosalie." Alice said handing her two boxes.
"It's a necklace. Alice picked it out." Rose stated then gave me mine with a smile. "I hope you like this."
I smiled and opened it to see a picture of me and her from when we went out before Rose changed her hair color back to her natural blonde.

"Rose. Thank you." I smiled pulling her into a hug which she gladly accepted, before Alice pulled me back to Emmett.
"Show us the love!" Alice smiled as Emmett kissed me and she got a picture of it.
