"...just fine. Why?"
"Are you sure?" Gabby asked genuinely concerned with a hint of disbelief.
"Yes, I promise. Now let's go to class," and with that she nodded, and we started walking off together. I acted as if I was alright on the outside, but on the inside, I wanted to just go home and cry myself to sleep or something. It's not like I have a crush on him or anything. It's just the thought that this random girl, I've never seen before, has taken a place in his life I should've been a part of.
Math Class
"Alright class, so I'd like to announce that we will be going on a field trip very soon. We are going to an amusement park," the whole class got excited. An amusement park for a math class? "Now class, we are not going there just to ride the rides. Your job is calculate how tall all the humps on the roller coasters are, how fast the car must go to get over it, and other things like that. I will give you all a worksheet when we go. If we have enough time left afterwards, we can ride the rides. Now, you will all be in pairs. Your partner(s) will be the person sitting next to you right now."
I looked over my shoulder to see Beckett, and he was looking back at me. After a quick moment, we turned our heads back to Mr. Wood. He started handing out a permission slip to everyone.
"Have this signed by next week guys."
After School
I was doing my homework while talking to Gabrielle on the phone.
"Oh my gosh, do you want to hear what happened today?" I asked and was about to tell her what happened in Calculus.
"Yes, what happened?"
"So we are going on a field trip, and apparently we need partners. Guess who my partner is."
"Don't tell me..." she asked in a worried tone.
"Yup, out of all people, it had to be him."
"What are you going to do?"
"I'm going to just try to treat him like I would anyone else I guess."
"Yes that's right," Gabby said while trying to cheer me up, "Don't let him get to you. He just like anyone else."
"You're right I know. Thanks Gabby."
"Yup, that's what I'm here for," I chuckled at her remark.
"Alright, I think I want to go to bed now."
"Okay, goodnight, Avery."
"Bye Gabby. See you tomorrow."
Day of the Field Trip
Perfect, just the day I was waiting for; I can't wait. The sound of my sarcasm was echoing in my head. I was absolutely dreading this day. Early in the morning, around 8:15, our class was called down to the foyer to get on the bus. Mr. Wood made one last announcement before we boarded the vehicle.
"Now, everyone, I want you to sit with your partners on the ride there," Mr. Wood was always an organized one, and I didn't really mind it for the most part. MOST part. Oh great. I love awkward car/bus rides.
We got on the bus and sat somewhere near the middle. He got the window seat (which was my preferred place, but oh well I guess). Everyone on the bus was chatting amongst themselves while our seat was dead silent. Not a word was said the entire ride. This moment would definitely make the list for the most awkward moments I've ever had.
When we finally arrived to the amusement park, Mr. Wood gave us all a worksheet and pencil attached to a clipboard.
"Alright you guys. I'm going to let you have at it. I know all you guys are going to ride the rides, but I have a condition, don't get separated from our partner. In fact, I want all of you, right now, to exchange numbers just in case. I would recommend you guys fill out the paper first before having fun. Okay, you guys are free to go. At 1:00, I want all of you back here and ready to go."
And just like that we were off. I was looking at the map and the worksheet to try to decide where we should go to next.
"We can go to the "Berserker" first because it's really close by, and it's on our paper. Is that okay with you?" I asked but there was no reply. I looked up to see that Beckett was already walking ahead of me.
"Oh great, this trip is going to be a blast," I said talking to myself sounding very worried about what's yet to come.
