Tonight was prom night. My phone is completely charged, and my stomach is empty. I put on my dress, makeup, and heels and had one foot out the door. I was even tempted to walk there, but then I remembered what shoes I had on.

"Okay mom, I'm leaving now. Bye!"

"No, wait! Let me take a picture of my baby."

I smiled at her remark and let her take a couple photos.

"Okay, you're good to go. Bye, Avery!"

"Bye, mom."

You know, I lowkey wish I had a date so I wouldn't have to spend a good chunk of my prom night alone. Also, he could've saved me like $5 worth of gas by driving me there.

I walked into a big room decorated with French adornments and a huge poster reading "Night in Paris"

I saw Gabby with her arm latched around Josh. She turned her head and spotted me which put a bright smile on her face.

"Avery, wow you look so beautiful. Don't you think so too, Josh?" but he remained silent.

"Ugh, what? Do you not think I'm pretty?" I asked sarcastically. He still gave no reply. We looked at him confused, but eventually gave up and went back to talking.

"Well anyway, Gabby, you look stunning. I love your dress."

"I know right. There's no way I'm just wearing this once. Well, we are going to go dance. If you want to join us ."

"Oh, it's okay. I will just chill at the snack bar or something," I didn't want to feel like a third wheel.

"Aw, okay. Have fun. Join us anytime you want."

"Okay, I will."

I was watching those two dance all night while I was on my phone or eating. She occasionally came over to be with me, but I understand. Prom night is a time for couples, not so much friends. I tried to fall asleep at one point, but the music was too loud.

About an hour past until I decided I wanted to go home.

I tapped on Gabrielle's shoulder when she was dancing, "Hey Gabby, I think I'm going home now."

"Aw, why?"

"I'm just tired; that's all."

"Okay," she gave me a hug, "I hope you had fun."

"Yes, I had a good time. Bye bye."

I grabbed my purse and jacket and walked out.

A couple minutes later, I found myself just sitting in my car. Not turning the key, not pressing on the gas, not anything. My mind was just blank. I felt brain dead. I finally decided I would just go for a walk or something. It was a warm night, so I really didn't need my jacket.

I was walking on the sidewalk until I found a bench. The view from where I was standing looked rather pretty tonight, so I took the liberty to take a seat. I am such an introvert. Moments like these help me escape from all the loud music and aura earlier that night.

I was daydreaming when I felt the bench move slightly.

I look over to my right to see Beckett sitting next to me star gazing.

"It's beautiful right?" he said. I didn't reply. My mind was still trying to determine if I was imagining this or not.

"What are you doing here by yourself?" I looked back to the scenery and decided he deserved an answer.

"I just got bored from prom."

"What, no date?"

"Nope."

"Figures."

Even though I didn't say it, I was thinking, *What do you mean "figures"?* What an insult, but I wasn't going to let him destroy my mood.

I was deep in thought until he laid his head on my shoulder and closed his eyes. Shocked, I didn't move a muscle. He remained there for a good ~five minutes until his head quickly rose.

"I have an idea," he sat up, "let's have our own prom."

I was slightly confused, so I asked for reassurance, "What do you mean?"

He took out his phone and played some music. He set it on the bench and put his hand, face-up, in front of my face. I cautiously accepted it worrying if this was a trick. He softly smiled at me and put his hand on my waist. I placed my hand on his shoulder and looked into his eyes. At first, we started to sway back and forth which, strangely, made me a little more comfortable. Then, he slowly led me in a small, little waltz step. I don't think either of us are very skilled dancers, but it was still entrancing.

My hand was resting close on his shoulder as our two left feet took their toll. He let go of my waist to extend his arm and spin me closer to him. My hand landed on his chest, and we stared at each other. Our faces were mere inches apart. All motion stopped; we didn't move at all.

He leaned in to kiss me, but I backed away. This guy already had a girlfriend. It would be extremely out of place for me to kiss him like this. It just wasn't fair to her, no matter how rude or mean she comes off.

He took my movement as a rejection which totally ruined the mood.

After taking a strong breath, he let go of me to return to our original position. I expected him to be angry or something, but he actually didn't seemed that bothered. At least he knows when I'm not feeling comfortable.

We danced until the song ended. I spoke.

"I-I should go now. It's getting late."

He nodded. I smiled back at him and turned away.

After a few steps, he says, "Wait."

I turned back around to face him. He took quick steps to catch up to what little space was between us. Next thing I know, his lips came crashing onto mine. He was mature but gentle all in one, and his hands held both sides of my head.

He broke the kiss and smirked at me.

"I was going to get it one way or another," No words seemed to be able to escape my lips.

After that, he just walked off as if it were just like any other day while I was left dumbfounded.
