I put on my black hoodie, got in my car and drove off to Gabby's. I had to keep a low profile, so I parked across the street from her house.
After about ten minutes or so, I saw Josh's car. I ducked down behind the dashboard, and watched them until they drove off. I started the car and followed them keeping my distance.
They went into this Italian restaurant which actually looked really nice. There was a glass door, so I hid behind it to watch until they sat down. A couple minutes later, I walked in and asked for a seat for one. She started to lead me to a table right next to theirs.
"Excuse me, miss?" She turned around, "Could I have that table over there instead?"
She gave me a puzzled look but eventually agreed.
"Sure."
"Thank you so much."
I sat on the side where my back could face them. It was quieter than most restaurants on a Friday night which was in my favor because then I could hear their conversation better.
Gabby ordered a shrimp alfredo with water and Josh wanted a chicken parmesan with lemonade. They shared a plate of garlic bread. See, this just shows how creepy I am. What kind of person follows her best friend on her date and even listens to what she orders? Oh well, I had a good reason.
I was so focused on them, that I completely forgot to look at the menu.
"Have you decided what you wanted to order?"
I looked up to her with a guilty face. I didn't want to ask her to come later because I was actually pretty hungry. What was a dish almost all Italian eateries have?
"Um, can I have a margarita pizza please?"
"Sure, anything else?"
"Can I also get a side of garlic bread."
"Yes, okay. I will be back with your food."
"Thank you." As she walked off, I remembered I completely forgot about my ease dropping mission.
"Haha, you're so funny." I heard Gabby giggling.
What was so funny? Was she just flirting?
"I know right. She had no idea."
Who had no idea!? Ugh, I'm so nosy.
Our food came out and I got to say, I almost fell asleep. Their conversation was so boring. I don't care about your dog or where you grew up. I wanted to go on my phone or something, but I restrained because I had to stay focused.
35 Minutes Later
I was just snacking on my garlic bread at this point, until I heard Josh say the magic words.
"Hey, Gabby, there's something I want to tell you."
My head never shot up so quick. I had like ten seconds to come up with a way to interrupt his sentence.
"Okay, what is it?"
Oh no. What do I do? I couldn't think of anything, so I just sat up to "go to the bathroom" with my cup on water. I put on my hood and "accidentally" slipped with my drink and it spilled all over Josh.
"Hey! What the heck?!"
I turned around keeping my head low, "Sorry," I said with a deep voice so it would be unrecognizable. I quickly turned around and walked off.
"What a jerk," Gabby said.
"No it's okay. It'll dry soon," Josh explained while wiping his shirt with a napkin.
"So anyway, what were you going to say?"
"Oh, it's no big deal. I'll tell you later."
I circled back to my table.
"Hello miss. Did you enjoy everything tonight?"
"Yes, thank you."
"Alrighty, here's the check."
"Thank you." I opened up the little folder and saw what I owed.
"$15!? Do they think I'm rich or something?" I said while trying to keep my voice low.
I looked behind me to see the couple leaving. This was my cue. Because I was in a hurry, I paid in cash and left, but not without taking my last piece of garlic bread.
They ended up going for a walk in the park. The same one where I had my little outrage with Beckett. I felt a little guilty because of that.
They were walking when I heard Josh say the cue words, "Hey, remember I was about to say something at the restaurant?"
"Yes, what about it?"
I saw a dog nearby and just kinda went for it. I took the ball it was playing with and tossed it to Josh.
"Well, I actually-"
A tennis ball rolled through his leg and the dog ran after it causing Josh to fall. He fell into the ground and into some dog poop. This was not part of the plan, but it was pretty funny.
"Oh my gosh! Josh, are you alright?"
"Yes I'm fine." He stood up and Gabby started to wipe him off.
"Eww!" Gabby squealed.
"What is it?"
"You have poop on your butt!"
"What!?"
I couldn't help but laugh, but careful not to be too loud.
"You know what? Let's just call it a night. Apparently I have really bad luck today, and I think I should go home before I die or something."
"Aww okay," Gabby became really upset as they walked to his car.
I felt really bad for my actions today. On the bright side, I think I prevented Gabrielle from becoming even more sad than she is right now.
