Angela woke up.
Her breath was heavy, chest rising and falling in a quick action. The room was white, along with the bed she laid on. This was in her hospital room. She looked down and saw she wore nothing but underwear and bandages wrapped tight around her chest.
A stinging pain filled the emptiness, a heartbeat filling her ears. The blonde laid back, sighing. She racked her mind for any information, anything at all that could lead up to here. She knew, obviously, something happened. But what?
Nothing came up. Only blankness.
A knock came on the door, then was followed by footsteps. Jack Morrison and McCree entered.
Angela scrambled to grab the blanket and cover herself. "Ursäkta dig!" The doctor exclaimed, scowling at the two men. McCree dipped his hat, "that's reserved for Genji, right right, sorry." He had a cheeky grin on his face before being elbowed by jack.
"Thank you, Commander."
Jack nodded. "We came to check up on you. We came earlier but you were asleep so," Jack glanced at McCree and shrugged. "How are you feeling, Angela?"
"I'm..alright. It hurts, yes. But I can deal with a little bit of pain." Angela eased up, leaning back into the bed frame.
McCree furrowed his eyebrows. "You seem awful calm. Maybe those meds Ana gave you worked too well." The cowboy frowned
"Whatever do you mean? I don't remember what happened, but I assume it was a mission, yes?"
Jack and McCree looked at each other uneasily. "Actually, Angela it was-" Before Jack could finish McCree interrupted. "Was a mission, yes. We'll leave you be, ma'am." Jesse dipped his hat again and grabbed Jacks arm tightly, hurrying out of the room and slamming the door on a frowning doctor.
McCree pulled Jack to the side. "What was that for? Why did you lie to her?"
McCree immediately put a finger on his lips. "First of all, lower your voice!" Jesse said in a hushed tone. "Second of all, there is no need for Angela to panic."
Jack gave him a dumbfounded look. "Angela is the only one who can heal him, you idiot! She built him, and probably knows his body best." Jack growled.
Jesse had a twisted smile.
"That's not what I meant!"
"C'mon, let's go checkup on the man." Jesse sighed, walking past Jack. The commander nodded and followed close behind, the two silent as they walked.
————Torbjorn was hard at work, tinkering. This project, to say the least, was difficult. Having to avoid flesh? Having to work with flesh? He hated it, but of course he wasn't given a choice about working on Genji or not. The cyborg was very, very broken. He seemed to be in a coma, and none of his robotics were working.
Jack and Jesse walked in, closing the door lightly as they entered. "Hey, Mr. Lindholm. We just came to check up on Gen-"
"Yes, yes.." Torbjorn waved a dismissive hand, his eyes peering at his work. His face sharp, his mind focused. McCree and Jack simply cringed at the sight, Genji all mangled, dry blood and small pieces of both rubble and metal were stuck in different places. It made them sick, yet they were silent. The dwarf turned to look over his shoulder. "How is Angela? Will she be able to work?"
McCree shrugged, hesitant to reply. "You see, doc, Angela seems to have uh, amnesia. She don't remember nothin'. She assumes she's in a bed 'cause 'a mission. I didn't really have the heart to tell her otherwise."
Torbjorn huffed, looking towards the ground. "Of course. Fine. I'll tell her myself." The mechanic hopped down from his stool and started to shuffle his way towards the door. Jack quickly stood in front of it, his hands in front of the bearded man. "How can you be so sure this is the best plan of action? She's only just woken up." Jack furrowed his eyebrows with worry.
Torbjorn looked up at him, a frown very clear on his face. "What does it matter? In a matter of minutes Genji could die. How do you think she'll feel if he does and she wasn't there to at least try to help? She's a doctor for christs sake!" Torbjorn exclaimed, raising his metal arm for emphasis.
Jack sighed, stepping aside. "Thank you," the dwarf said, and walked through. The two taller men followed.
————
Angela sat in the room alone, standing with the help of a cane, looking at old files of other patients to help pass the time. Torbjorn walked in, and froze at the sight of an almost-naked Angela. She yelped, limping over to the bed and gripping the sheets to cover herself.
"What is it, Torbjorn?" The Doctor replied, breathless. The short man cleared his throat awkwardly and walked into the room deeper. McCree and Morrison waited outside.
A few minutes passed before the blood-curdling scream of Angela could be heard, along with a loud thump. A moment later, sobbing.
McCree and Jack rushed in. They saw Torbjorn awkwardly cradling a half-naked, sobbing Angela, whose eyes were covered by her hands. She was curled up on the floor, Torbjorn barely being able to support her leaning on him. McCree picked her up bridal-style and set her on the bed, a frown on all of their faces.
"Jack.." McCree whispered. "How do we um...how do?" He gestured to the sobbing woman. (Me)
Jack shrugged. "I don't know!" He whispered back. "Can the lot of you shut up and get the poor woman some clothes?" Torbjorn whisper yelled at them. McCree nodded firmly and ran into Jack before grabbing a hospital gown and forcing Angela into it.
Quickly, she bolted up without her cane, running as fast as she could in her state to the metal-shop. "No, no!" Torbjorn exclaimed, jumping up after her.
Angela gave yet another, horrific scream, mixed with sobs as she walked in, collapsing on the edge of the work table. The boys rushed in, too late.
"WHAT HAPPENED?!" Angela yelled over her shoulder, fighting back more tears, her throats going dry. "Genji...saved you." Jack rubbed the back of his neck. "From Talon."
Angela's lip quivered. No wonder Genji was so nervous! Oh, how she felt like a fool. If only Genji had said something. Angela turned back to the terrible sight, forcing herself to look at it.
If only I could turn back time.
