Genji sat up quickly, his eyes were wide, his breath was heavy. A blanket covered his lower half, Genji's black hair was messy and matted.
"Where..?" Genji scanned the room. Hanzo sat in a chair besides him, reading a book. His bow laid besides him, his eyes lifted. Icy, hard and sharp; just as Genji remembered them.
"You're not anywhere new." Hanzo spoke. Genji was frozen, staring into his unforgiving eyes. "So stop being dramatic."
Genji narrowed his own eyes. "I have not seen you since-"
"The temple, yes. I see you've...gone under some new changes?" Hanzo asked.
Genji said quiet for a moment. "Why are you interested?" Genji shifted so he wasn't leaning on his arms. "Because." Hanzo stood, raising Genji's guard, "itd be nice to know what saved my brother from my foolishness."
"Is this an apology? If so, you should've written a letter." Genji looked away. Hanzo sighed, "I..I'm trying, Genji, please-"
"No, Hanzo. You came into MY HOME, at the worst time possible! I gave you a chance, months, and no response! I waited, and waited, but no! Don't fucking tell me you're trying, I had to survive your attack, and no matter how much I know I forgive you, my hopes are dropping in your recovery!" Genji snapped, his nose wrinkling.
Hanzo scowled at Genji, folding his arms. Before he could speak, Genji took up the air. "Once I finally think I have a firm grasp on life, once I think I can actually do something, you appear! You always put me in the dirt, into bedrock, whose saying you won't do it now?!" Genji started to yell in his native tongue, Japanese. "I am tired of waiting for you, and once I stopped, Here you are. Leave before I make you." Genji snapped once and for all, leaving Hanzo speechless. "Brother-" Hanzo tried reaching out, but his hand was slapped with Genji's own metal hand. "Leave."
Hanzo took a step back. "Fine. I'm sorry, brother." Hanzo bowed before grabbing his bow and opening the window, jumping out into the night sky.
——Genji did not sleep
How could he?
After years of not seeing his brother, he returned at the worst of times—when Genji was not mentally nor physically prepared. Genji thought long and hard, but could come with no solution.
Angela tapped Genji's shoulder, who pretended to be asleep to not worry her. He 'sleepily' arose, rubbing his eyes. "Good morning, Genji. I brought some breakfast." She presented a plate with French toast and orange juice. All Genji was worried about, or focused on, was her smile.
Amelia sat at the foot of the bed, placing a hand on Genji's leg that was covered by a blanket. "Sleep well?"
"Of course." Genji lied through a smile. Angela took it, and inhaled deeply. "First day of physical therapy. Ready?"
Genji sighed, "as ready as I will ever be." He gave a weak smile. Angela didn't drop her pure one, and quickly hopped up. "Because this is your first day, I have something to carry you!"
As if on cue, the burly man Rehinhart opened the door and walked in, slamming said door against the wall, and put his hands on his hips, grinning. "I will be your transport!" He declared with a hearty laugh.
Genji gulped, and gave a nervous look to Angela. "I trusted you—" The Ninja was interrupted by a humming giant, picking him up and ducking under the door frame, walking into the hall. McCree stepped out of his room to see them strolling past, Genji was thrown over Reinhardts shoulder, a scowl on his face.
McCree snorted.
McCree caught up to them, walking behind and near Genji's head. "S-so, Genji." McCree addressed, holding in laughter as best he could, "w-where'd you get the ride? Germany?" He bit his lip, trying to hide his enormous smile.
Genji groaned, "kill me now, why don't you, McCree?"
"If a blast ain't, what business do I have too?"
They walked into a larger room, longer with windows aligned on one side, a studying room it seemed.
Reinhardt set Genji on a chair, and sat in one himself. McCree also.
Angela stood in front of Genji. "Do you remember last time?" She asked softly.
"Go slow. Don't be foolish, yes, I remember." Genji smiled, and glanced over to McCree, who had his cell phone out, pointed at him.
Genji gave the bird.
"Aww don't be like that, Genji! I'm just recording babies first steps!" McCree chuckled evilly.
The ninja rolled his eyes and inhaled deeply, looking at the ground. He gripped the back of the wooden chair, and started to put weight on his legs, after a few moments, he let go. Another few seconds, he took a wobbly first step, no falling yet.
Angela clapped enthusiastically, "one step towards recovery!" She smiled brightly. Genji glanced over and gave a pained smile. He took yet another, wobbly step.
'How the heck did I walk and carry Angela on a pair of sticks?' Genji thought to himself, and glanced at the ceiling. 'A miracle, I suppose.' He looked back down. 'A lot more weight than I remember.'
Genji inhaled deeply, and walked across the room with ease, and turned, opening his arms and smiling.
"Aw shit!" McCree growled. "I was gonna post that on YouTube but ya ruined it, ya big ruiner!" McCree set the phone down.
Genji rolled his eyes. He tried something. Quickly, he had a running start and did a spinning flip, and landed on his hands.
He laughed. McCree looked up. "Right as I put the damned thing down!"
"Trust me, this hurts like hell." Genji then fell onto his stomach. Angela tapped her chin. "I would've thought you'd need more time."
Genji stood, "when you lose your body twice, it starts to get easy." Genji stared at the ground, and the room was silent.
"Well, recovery well recovered, yes?" Reinhardt patted his knee and stood. "Let's go see what Ana cooked for breakfast! I can smell her biscuits from here!"
They all got up and followed Reinhardt out, smiling and talking as they did. This was Genji's real home. His real life.
