Hanzo and Genji swung their feet over the edge, Genji hunched over while Hanzo sat straight up, the two gripping bottles of different liquids. The black sky covered darkness over the Shimada estate, the Cherry tree slightly shifted from the soft winds that flew by.
The two were silent, Genji's eyes were full of stars, looking at the distant balls of gas that filled the sky, grinning to himself as he loosely hung onto his cup.
Hanzo looked over at the star gazer. "Look, Genji, I apologize for earlier today. The elders asked me to take action, for you not taking action." Hanzo sighed, closing his eyes briefly. "I'm sorry."
Genji's eyes slowly drifted to the ground. He ran a hand through his soft green hair, inhaling deeply before replying. "It's fine, Hanzo." He replied, not making eye contact. "No, Genji. I can tell when your lying. I hurt you, and I'm sorry." Hanzo looked over at him, sighing when Genji didn't return the contact.
Hanzo took a swig of his drink, and blinked rapidly, then looked to Genji. "Never do this."
Genji looked over, "huh?"
Hanzo looked back to his drink, gesturing to it. "Never drink."
Genji blinked, and looked back to the sky. "Why?" He asked. "Because," Hanzo put his drink down, "this is no excuse to get rid of pain. No matter how much you hurt, no matter how much you want to run away and...turn to this, don't ever. If you think you only need a little, you will get addicted to the soothing sensation it gives you. The pain will always be there." Hanzo store at the ground.
Genji's eyes were wide. "Is..that what happened to you?" He asked, gripping his own apple juice. He looked at his hands, two fleshy hands that had scars and cuts. He could never image losing them. Losing so much story from his body.
Hanzo was silent for a moment. "Yes." He spoke softly. Genji and Hanzo stayed quiet for minute, soaking in the darkness and quiet of the night.
"I'm sorry for...everything. You were totally right earlier. Preparing yourself, if you...run away, is the best option. But Genji," Hanzo turned to him, furrowing his brow. "I can't run this empire alone." Hanzo set his drink down. "I can't run an empire, alone or not." Genji replied quietly, his eyes not moving from the soft grass below.
Hanzo frowned, picked up his drink, and took another swig. "Think about it for me, okay? Help me stop.. this." Hanzo gestured to his drink. "And never start it. Promise me?"
"I promise."
Genji woke up, gasping for air. His breath suddenly became ragged and heavy. Genji quickly looked at his hands. One of his hands was still metal. He inhaled deeply, his room was dark, the curtains on his window made it even more so.
How could he break his promise?
Genji's eyes closed, he rubbed his face and swung his feet out of under his covers, standing and leaving his room. He wandered his way down the hall, and one room had a faint light filtering from under the door. Curious, Genji made his way towards it and slowly opened the door, peeking his head in.
"Angela?" He asked, blinking from the light. Once his eyes adjusted, he could see Angela criss-crossed in her swivel chair writing in a book, a lamp lighting the small area. She looked up surprised, then her face dulled once she recognized the face. "What are you doing up so late?" Genji asked. "I could ask you the same." Angela sighed, closing the book. "You shouldnt be up. How are you feeling?"
"Awake."
Angela scowled at him, frowning. "Why are you awake?" Angela sighed again. Genji walked in and closed the door quietly. "You should go to bed." Genji said softly, ignoring her question. Angela leaned back, and got up. She walked over to Genji and simply hugged him. "Works been hard." She whispered into his chest. Genji stroked her hair, holding her close. "I know, baby." Genji kissed her forehead.
Genji slowly picked her up, bridal style and turned off the lamp, carrying Angela out of her office. He smiled to himself, his lover slowly falling asleep in his arms. The cyborg carried her to her bed, setting her down gently and kissing Angela's forehead, setting a blanket on her. "Stay." She mumbled, reaching out for him. Genji smiled, not arguing with a chance to snuggle with Angela. He slipped under the sheets and wrapped his arms around the blonde doctor. She hummed, satisfied.
The next morning, Genji was the first to wake up. As much as he loved to hold Angela, something kept urging him to get up, so he complied.
In the kitchen stood McCree, hat tipped down and dark eyes staring at the tiles. "Wild night, yeah?" Genji said, startling the cowboy who responded shakily, "y-yeah. Heh. Sorry if I, y'know, caused any problems with yuh and Angela." McCree frowned. Genji simply shrugged, "it's fine. She let me sleep with her last night, so I'd say things are okay." Genji hopped onto the island, sitting on the marble.
McCree had a cheeky grin on his face.
"Not that kind of sleep! Get your stupid cowboy hat out of the gutter, McCree." Genji playfully hit the back of McCrees head who laughed, holding onto his hat.
"Well, I'm glad I didn't make our fabulous star couple break up." McCree smiled softly, though his eyes showed something was tugging at him. Genji set a hand on his shoulder. "If anything is bothering you, Jesse, let me know. Okay?" Genji said sincerely, gripping his shoulder. McCree nodded slowly, "sure." He said, his eyes drifting back to the floor. "Just ah...what happened yesterday.." McCree rubbed the back of his neck. "The drinking? McCree it's okay-"
"No no I mean...when you..saved Angela."
Genji blinked. "I did what?" McCrees eyes widened. "You don't remember? No wonder you don't seem..stressed?" McCree paused to search for the right word. Genji now gripped both of the cowboys shoulder, a face of worry across his face.
"Oh shit."
"What. Happened?" Genji growled lowly, venomously.
Thus, commenced the stuttering McCree and McCree almost getting choked by an angry Genji.
"I fought a terrorist...drunk..." Genji echoed. McCree nodded, furrowing his eyebrows. "And...Vanessa in here? Locked up?" McCree nodded again. Genji inhaled sharply, putting his head in hands. "How?" Genji whispered.
McCree shrugged, folding his arms on his chest. Genji quickly walked away, walking towards the cells. McCree followed behind.
Genji opened the door, freezing up when he saw her. Tied up to chair, her head hanging. She looked up, grinning at Genji. "My favorite cyborg. How lovely." She continued to grin. Genji quickly closed the door. "You're here for me, aren't you?" Genji snapped, pointing his finger at her. She leaned back, huffing.
"Perhaps. Maybe not." She tilted her head to the side.
Genji formed a fist in both of his hands. "I know about you." He growled. "Abused, thrown out, omnics saved you, yet here you are murdering them. You...your mother worked for-"
"What's happening in here?" McCree opened the door. Genji turned to him, scowling. "Sorry. Winston wants to see you."
Genji growled, and looked at Vanessa over his shoulder. "This is not over." Genji spat, walking past McCree and down the hall.
It was not even beginning.
