In the middle of the night I feel arms wrap around me. I open my eyes to find a teary eyed Spring suffocating me in a hug.
"Spring?" I ask trying to sit up.
" Y-you're alive! I thought you were d-dead! "
Tears slip down his face.
"I-I'm okay Spring."
"I woke up a-and..."
"I'm alive Spring. I'm right here. I'm just a little hurt, that's all." I say trying to soothe him.
"I-I'm very thankful for that. This is the best birthday present ever." He says. I stare at him cocking my head to the side.
"Birthday?"
"It's my birthday today. Fourteen today. Just turned midnight."
"How do you know what time it is?" I ask."The sky. "
"What? That makes no sense. Who taught you that?"
"The stars did." He says.
What is he talking about? He sighs.
"Come here." He says walking over to the small barred window. I'm too short to see out of it. He picks me up with one arm so I can see.
"I can tell the time by the position of the stars." He explains. The moon light reflects off his face making him look ghostly.
"But how do you do it when the sun is out?" I ask.
"The sun is a star. Telling the time can be very useful here."
"Can you teach it to me?"
He rolls his eyes.
"Geez kid! First I'm teaching you how to survive! Then I'm teaching you how to fight! Now I'm teaching you astronomy!"
"I'm sorry..."
He ruffles my hair.
"I'm just joking with you! I'll teach you!" He says smiling. He puts me down gently and sits in the corner. I scoot myself next to him. He puts his arm around me. I lean against him as a yawn escapes my lips.
"Night Yin."
"Night Spring."
