I'm exhausted. Spring and I stayed up all night planning. I'm leaving today. He drilled the plan into my head last night, so it's easy to repeat all the steps. They follow as is:
Phase One
Step One - Go to morning roll call (act like you know nothing)
Step Two - Go to breakfast and tell the twins about the plan. Steal as much food as you possibly can for four people
Step Three - Skip work and ask Olliver to steal bandages from the infirmary (Have him drop them off at our cell)
Step Four - Go to Alex in the kitchens (He will help with preserving the food)
Step Five - Go to Mitch and ask him for wire cutters and a pair of gloves
Step Six - Go to Leah. She'll supply shoes for Olliver.
Step Seven - Hide in your cell. Marigold will bring you the guards schedule
Step Eight - Stay where you are. Spring will come to meet you and we'll study the guard schedule together
Then we'll start phase two, which will be more difficult than phase one. Phase two is as follows:
Phase Two
Step One - Figure out the best possible time to go
Step Two - Grab the twin and Olliver and the supplies
Step Three - Sneak out to The Courtyard with the twins, Olliver, and Spring
Step Four - Cut a whole in the death fence
Step Five - Let the kids go first
Then lastly there is phase three. It only contains one stop. Which is:
Phase Three
Step One - Fucking run and do not stop
Phase one has already started. I'm only on step one, which is to go to morning roll call and act as if I didn't overhear The Warden's conversation to kill me. I stand quietly in line as they call out names only speaking when they call out my name. Roll call goes faster than usual, and soon we're rushed off to breakfast. I sit down with my friends. Step two, steal food and tell the twins about the plan. I beckon the twins over. I probably should have sat next to them, but I like sitting next to Spring, especially right now.
"We're getting out of here, okay," I whisper. Their eyes light up.
"How?" asks Tammy.
"There's no time to explain I just need you to be ready,"
They both nod their heads. I look at all the rolls of bread in front of me, look around the Mess Hall, and shove at least five rolls into my pocket. Thank God that Spring's jacket is so big. I probably wouldn't have been able to fit everything if it wasn't. I take another one and bite into it. I'm going to need as much energy as possible for phases two and three. I finish it just as the bell rings. Step three skip work and ask Olliver to steal from Cadence. I get up and grab Olliver's hand just as he's about to leave the hall. I lead him away from everyone else, getting on one knee to speak to him.
"Olliver? Do you remember what Uncle Spring said about last night?" I ask gently. He nods his little head more hair falling over his face.
"What do you have to steal from Cadence?"
"Bandages," he signs.
"And where do you need to bring them?"
"Our cell,"
I smile.
"Good, Good," I say, "I want you to be super careful okay,"
He nods.
"Promise me you'll be careful,"
"I promise," He answers.
I smile again.
"Mommy loves you," I tell him. I feel like I don't tell him enough.
"I love you too,"
I kiss his head before standing up and sending him off to work. Step three is done. Now on to step four. I need to visit Alex in the kitchens. I go back through the Mess Hall and into the kitchens. It's not hard to find him in the crowded kitchens. It's not hard to find him anywhere. His emo look sets him apart from anyone else in The ScrapYard.
"Hey, Alex," I say leaning against the metal counter he's cutting vegetables on.
"...hey..."
"I need you to do something for me,"
"...what is it..." he asks laying down his knife. I take the rolls from my pocket and put them on the counter.
"...what do you want me to do with those..." he asks.
"I need you to wrap them up so they stay fresh,"
"...why...?"
"Just...do it...please..." I beg.
He sighs, going to a set of counters behind me. He opens one of the drawers, pulls out a large Zip-Lock freezer bag and comes back.
"...this should do it..." he says as he puts each one in the bag. He closes it taking all the air out before handing it back to me.
"Thanks," I answer putting it back in my pocket.
"...mhm..." he says going back to his knife. I take that as my cue to leave. I turn and then stop myself. I can't leave without saying goodbye. Especially since I'm most likely never coming back.
"Alex?"
"...yeah...?"
"I love you," I state. He looks up setting his knife down.
"...what...?"
"I love you, Alex," I say again,
"...I love you too..." he answers. I nod and turn around again. When he doesn't say anything I go.
