Casper?
Casper wake up.
C'mon, Casper! I know you can hear me!
I peel open my eyes to see two purple glowing irises above my head. My vision is blurry for a few seconds before Edmond's face can come into to full focus. "Gugh," I push his head away from mine and stare at the ceiling, "what?" The ten year old goes back over me again, this time his little dragon, Dia, peeks at me from his shoulder. "Are you going to actually cut my hair today? You slept in till," he sneaks a glimpse at the clock on my bedside table and then turns back, "one P.M.."
...
...
"WHAT?!" I pop up from my bed, nearly bonking heads with Edmond. I whip my attention to the clock to check if Edmond's messing with me or not. He wasn't. Matter of a fact, it's actually one fourty five, not just one o'clock. "Ugh. Edmond!" I fall back into my pillow, squeezing my eyes shut. "Are you doing my hair, or no?" Edmond pushes the request. He's determined to get his hair done today. "Fine. Get in the bathroom."
The long journey from my bed sheets to the bathroom took longer than Edmond wished. He would yell for me every two seconds. Now that I'm in the bathroom, I see that the little pestering child has everything all set for me. The little metal scissors rest on the bathroom counter next to several hair tools to use on Edmond's curly hair, which is incredibly hard to deal with sometimes. Matter of a fact, I remember a few months back when his hair was so poofy, even the rain outside couldn't bring it down very much. And it was pouring.
"Dia says she'll bite your toes if you mess up this time." Edmond giggles, patting the little red scales on Dia's head. I can't help but chuckle at the thought of a little tiny dragon like Dia attempting to get at my toes. "Well, I best not mess up then." I take a comb and brush it through Edmond's hair. Almost immediately, it gets caught on a knot in his curls. "Ah! Casper!" His head is yanked back when I pull with more force, resulting in him yelping in pain. "Shut up, then." I grin, taking a spray bottle full of water to his hair.
"Ed, stop moving, please." I sigh, attempting to comb back his dripping hair. The thing about Edmond's hair is, it's hard to style. It takes ten minutes just to get it straight enough to cut and even then it's hard to deal with. "Wait, where are your glasses?" I pause everything, noticing that his specticles are nowhere in sight. They're not even on his face. The guilty little boy grins, letting out a nervous breathy laugh. He lost them. Again. I scruff up his wet hair, setting down the comb and spray bottle. "I'm not doing your hair now."
"What?! Casper!" Edmond whines, slightly flailing his arms at his sides. He jumps up from the chair, nearly dropping Dia. "Be careful, or you'll hurt your dragon." I glare down at him, getting puppy eyes back. I don't give in at all, I'm honestly sick of him losing his glasses that he only got a week ago. There's only one way I'll even consider doing his hair today. "If you manage to find your glasses, I might," I put emphasis on might, "MIGHT, do your hair today." That's when Ed stomps out of the bathroom with Dia, leaving me by myself.
I guess I have to get ready for what's left of the day. I stare at myself in the mirror. My hair is nearly completely silver. Some strands of blond hair are still visible and the tips of my hair are fading into a faint blond. My skin looks dreadful, acne covers my pale cheeks and purple circles are under my eyes.
Purple.
The color of a pair of eyes that I absolutely cannot forget. I will never forget Tahain. I might have forgotten my full name and life before prison but I have to remember him. I told him I would go back for him. I might remember Tahain's name and eyes, but I can't remember anything else. No memories. Not his full face. Not even the color of his hair. I've spent so long trying to remember but I forget more and more things every single day.
