Life has never been easy for me even now. Today I am transferring to a new firehouse. I guess the guys on my last truck didn't like my temper when they made me angry. I have been a firefighter for 6 years, and I have been in 2 houses I am on my 3rd. The very first firehouse I was at for two years before my whole crew was killed in a collapse. I was the only one to survive. Still not the worst thing to happen in my life. When I was 6 my parents were killed in a car accident, and so the firefighter who pulled me and my brother out was named Sam Connors. He took both of us in and raised us like we were his own granted he didn't have any kids. He died in a fire a year ago I took six months off after he died he was basically my father. I even called him dad because he is the only dad I have ever known. The only person I have left is my brother Antonio, and at least he still lives in Chicago. I have zero friends after my entire company was killed in the collapse I decided only work relationships nothing personal because then I get attached and when they leave I will be hurt. I am not going to get attached to this house or any other for that matter.

I walked up the driveway not knowing what to expect Dad always said Chief Boden was a great chief. I saw my truck and thought why a goat? That's when I saw him blonde hair blue eyes. No Gabby zero attachments remember I thought to myself I won't be hurt this time around "Hi I'm the new member on Truck 81, Gabby Dawson" she said to the blonde guy with the most amazing smile she has ever seen. "Nice to meet you I am your Lieutenant Matt Casey" she shook his hand a firm grip he had that is a good sign which shows he has confidence the biggest part of being a good leader. "Let me show you around," he said with a warm and friendly smile. I just looked away not to be rude, but again no attachments. He showed me around, and I got settled in. This house would probably just get rid of me in a month. I have never been able to count on anything, but my dad who passed, and my brother who works a lot.

TRUCK 81 ANIMAL IN TREE

I raced to the fire truck and hoped in. The older gentlemen sitting in front of me asked "how is this" my Lieutenant answered, "This is Dawson she is replacing Andy since he went to squad". The older gentlemen said "I'm Herman over there is Mouch, across from him is Otis, and driving is Cruz" I just nodded and whispered "thanks".

We arrived on scene and there was just a cat in a tree, and so Otis raised the ladder on the top of the truck and Casey went up and grabbed the cat. He got down and handed the cat to the little girl. Since the call was done we packed up and headed back to the house. Everyone was talking and laughing except for me I just looked out the window. All of a sudden it got quiet and I saw us pull in the gas station. We all piled out everyone was talking I was just staring at the building not too far remembering that was the building where my dad was killed in that fire a few years ago. Suddenly my old truck pulled up and my old Lieutenant jumped out and started talking to Casey I could hear the whole conversation. "So you got Dawson," said Lieutenant Jacobs "Yeah?" Casey sounded confused like he hasn't seen my file or heard anything about me. "She's quiet isn't she," he said like he was trying to get me mad, and it was starting to work. "Dawson?" Casey called over I started to walk over when Jacobs said "So Dawson you didn't tell them that the first house you were at your entire company was killed and you were the only one to survive" "Shut it Jacobs" I finally said with a stern voice. "What did you say to me," he said shocked I said anything, "I said shut it I don't have to take this from you so back off" I gave him the death look along with my deadly calm voice. the whole truck crew of 131 stepped back because they knew what this meant. "Watch it, Dawson," Jacobs said "One I don't take orders from you, two I will defend myself, and three I don't care what rank you are you stay out of my personal business no one needs to know anything about me," I said still with my deadly calm voice. All of 131 had a scared look on their faces like I was going to knock their lights out right then and there. They knew in high school I boxed, never lost, and I was a silver glove even though I should have been golden, but I wasn't because I was a girl. "You think you are so tough don't you," he said "Want to fight let's go I don't work for you so I can knock your lights out," I said and 131 looked like they were going to hide under a rock because they knew I wasn't kidding. All of a sudden they got called out so they had to go, and I knew this wasn't over but for now I have won. As they pulled out the rig finished filling so I hoped in everyone looked scared even my Lieutenant. We drove back but stopped at this old building this is where my first truck company died. Lieutenant Casey turned around "What was that about Dawson" "Nothing sir" "I want the truth" "He was the Lieutenant I worked under before I transferred" that's all I would say, but I knew he wanted to know what Jacobs was referring too. "What was he referring to Dawson" "I don't want to talk about it," I said hoping they would let it go now I was just staring out the window almost in tears remembering that day, and the one person who helped me through it was dead. "Well too bad now talk" he was getting angry. I couldn't talk about it, and I am so close to crying. No one was noticing the tears, or they weren't saying anything because they hated me or were scared of our Lieutenant. "NOW DAWSON" he finally yelled. I just opened the door jumped out and walked slash ran away "DAWSON" he shouted again. I entered the building and saw the place right where my Lieutenant died. The older guy Herman came in first he didn't say anything, and I didn't talk.

Truck 25 report yelled chief into his radio we could all hear him. "We are all okay," said Lieutenant Green. We walk in to find three girls nearly dead Johnson, Lou, and Mikey grabbed them we were all leaving when the smoke started getting thick. I heard a cry so I ran towards it. "Dawson" Green said that's when I found a little boy. "I found a kid I will bring him out now," I said we were close to the group, and the building flashed so I covered the kid, and a beam fell on me. I gave the kid my mask and he ran out. Squad 5 came in and freed me, but when I got out of the building I saw 7 dead bodies and most of them were my crew. From that fire, I lost my friends, broke my arm, and fractured my pelvis.

"Dawson" Herman said again this time everyone besides Casey was in there looking concerned that's when I noticed I was on my knees and I had tears streaming down my face. That's when Casey walked in looking madder than ever. His face was as red as a stop sign. He was about to speak when I looked at the ground and started taking. "The first crew I was with them for two years. The fire at this building was the last one I worked with them. They found these women, and everyone was leaving with the victims... I heard a cry for help and went to go to get him, and on the way out the building flashed I sent the kid out with my mask. I couldn't get the boy out because I was pinned under a beam. The guys from squad 5 came in and carried me out. I saw 7 dead bodies it was the victims and my entire crew they were all killed .... and I just had..... a few.... broken.... bones" I said and I started crying "It should have been me" I cried. "It should have been me".
