Chapter 26

DR MANNING POV

Gabby was in bad condition I am not going to lie. She has many broken bones, a cracked skull, and internal bleeding. Dr. Rhodes took her up to surgery a while ago, while I called her husband. He was here and seemed worried out of his mind. 

MATT POV

I had gotten to the hospital five hours ago, and Gabby was in surgery. Her injuries were not good. She broke her hip bone, shattered her right knee cap, has a cracked skull, and internal bleeding. I won't lie I am worried out of my mind. She is the love of my life and I hurt her. I need her to know how much I love her. I need Gabby to know she means the world to me, that I would do anything, and everything in my power to protect her. I love Gabby, and that is no lie. I will do anything I have to to win my girl back even if it means leaving and letting her think. I love Gabby more than I have ever loved anyone before, that is the only truth in this world that I know for sure is true. Dr. Rhodes comes out covered in blood my brain went straight to the worst possible option. "Family of Gabby Dawson" he said. I stood ready to hear that my wife is gone and gone for good. Ready to hear I will never be able to tell her I am sorry for what I did. Ready to hear that she will never know how much I truly love her. "Miss Dawson was very lucky she lost a lot of blood, but somehow made it through surgery you can go see her now". It finally registered that he said Gabby was alive. It was the best feeling she will know how much I love her and how sorry I am for being so stupid and hurting her. She will know how much I love her and our family. I get up and thank him then basically run to Gabby. I got to the doorway and looked in she was awake, and looking out the window. I walked in and closed the door behind me. When she heard he door she turned and just looked at me. I just stopped in my tracks not knowing if I should continue.

GABBY POV

I turned to see Matt standing their. He stopped right in his tracks. I had no id ea what to say. We sat their in silence until I broke the silence by speaking. "Matt" was all I could get out before I started crying. He just ran over to me and held me close to him wanting to help me feel better. "Hey it's okay Gabby. It's okay. You're okay. I won't ever hurt you again Gabby. I love you and you mean the world to me. When I got that call my heart stopped. I love you Gabby and I don't care how long it takes I will prove it to you" he said while crying holding me close to him. I actually believed him. He just held me both of us crying silently. "I love you Matt..." is all I could get out through my crying. He held me tighter not wanting to ever let me go. Not wanting me to leave his side. I sat their for a while. We still had things to talk about, but I mean this was a step in the right direction. 

FOUR HOURS LATER

We had just been sitting here since he came in and told me how much he loved me. I know me and Matt have been through a lot but he has my heart and always will. He is the person I lean on when I am sad. He is the person I count on when I am hurting. He will always be the person I come to with a problem. He is my everything. Him and our three kids are my everything. We have been through so much and each time we come out stronger. But I knew we needed to talk I was about to say something when a head chief of the CFD walked in holding a slip of paper which was an invitation to the ceremony were Chief Boden will become commissionaire and he will announce who in the house is taking the chief position. Gabby was starting to wake up and I knew we had to talk. "Hey Gabs I think we should figure everything out" I said knowing she would know I care. "Okay" she said. "Well I promise nothing will ever happen again Gabby I promise and if I hurt you like that you can leave me" I said. "Matt no matter how much you hurt me you have my heart and I can't change that I wouldn't leave you" she said which basically made me want to jump for joy because she had my heart to. I love Gabby Dawson and that is a fact that I know  just like everyone else. I can't believe this girl is mine I mean what did I do to deserve her. She means the world to me. What if I lose her I can't. She is my everything Gabby is my everything. But we have a job that can take our lives at any moment, so we just have to live everyday like it is our last. 

THREE WEEKS LATER

GABBY POV

Tonight is Bodens promotion ceremony Alex, Andy, Caleb, Matt, and I are all going. For once we will have someone running the department who actually cares  about the men and women serving the department. I just wonder who will be taking over as Chief of 51, but we will find out tonight. I went down stairs being the first one ready and got my camera and the keys to Molly's for a congratulations party chief doesn't know about. About ten minutes later the boy's, our daughter, and Matt come down stairs. We got in the car and drove to the fire academy because the ceremony which is in the training floor which we all walked across when we were training for our jobs. We have Severide at our table. We are all happy for chief I mean he looks out for his people, so now we know the department is in good hands. The old commissionaire walked up on stage to give his speech. "This department is one of the best in the state and I am proud of that. I wanted to leave this department in the best hands possible, and luckily I found the man for the job. A hard working man, a brave courageous man, a loyal man. This person has been with the department for years. The man replacing me is Wallace Boden" everyone clapped their hands as Boden got his new badge, and the keys to his new CFD SUV. It was time for the lieutenants speech Kelly was the first one up. "I have known Boden for years. He will do anything for his people. He will fight for his people, that is something that will keep this one of the best departments in the state. But he also made our house a family, and I have a feeling soon the CFD will be one big family." Kelly didn't speak for long but he spoke the truth. Now it was Matt's turn. "Live Lieutenant Severide said Boden fights for his people he looks out for those serving under him. He fought to keep our firehouse open when a state fire official wanted a bonus by closing houses. He stood up when she tried to get him to quit, but he didn't because he knew his house wouldn't be in the right hands. He keeps his house a family and he will fight for his house. He will fight for this department. Boden you will do great." Matt finished he spoke more than Kelly, but he gave the best speeches. Now it was Bodens turn, now we would find out who the new chief will be. "I have been a smoke eater for years, and now I am the head of the department. That is a huge step, but a great step for me and my family. I am honored to have this job, and I know who I chose to run 51 will be great at it. This firefighter has worked harder than anyone else to get where they are in life. The firefighter had a hard life, but made it through. I am proud to announce Gabby Dawson as the new chief of firehouse 51. I know she is not an officer, but she has the qualities someone needs to lead. It was hard to chose out of everyone in 51, because everyone is good for the job but Gabby is the one I chose. She is strong, tough, brave, courageous, has an attitude which against all the guys will come in handy. Chief Dawson good luck I will be checking in every so often." I was named chief. I went up and got my new badge. I was a chief of 51. This was a new chapter in my life. Because of all the new stuff 51 was closed for half of next shift so I can get use to some of the things. Tomorrow I have to start getting people to run the bull pen.
