Chapter 29

For the rest of shift Matt and I din't talk when I went home he wasn't there. The kids got home from school around four and he still wasn't home. I know he was mad about what happened on shift. I get it but he didn't follow orders and I had to let him know tat wasn't okay that even though we are married he doesn't get any special treatment. I tried calling several times between six and eight but he didn't answer. I was eating dinner with the kids when Alex asked "Mom where is dad?" "I'm not sure kiddo" "did something happen to him at work" she asked clearly worried about Matt. "No we had an argument because he didn't follow an order and almost got himself killed I yelled at him, and haven't heard from him since" I told them the truth they are old enough to know what is going on. Alex looked angry and so did her brothers "don't be angry with him he was worried about Capp and Tony" she looked shocked all the people at the house are family to them "are they okay" "yeah once papa Herman got your dad out I went in and got hem". She nodded understanding. The kids decided to do the dishes for me because I am hurt so I went to call Kelly, someone needs to find Matt and now.

Conversation K-Kelly G-Gabby

K- Hello?

G- Kelly I can't get a hold of Matt and he hasn't come home

K- Gabby calm down does he have a job tonight

G- no

K- okay I will go find him don't worry Gabby I will call you when I find him

G- thank you Kelly

K- no problem Gabs

End of Coversation

I know Kelly will come through for me. He has always been such a good friend and he would do anything for me. About five minutes later the kids came in to watch TV with me. They turned on NCIS and I was sitting on the couch when I got a call from Brett. I got up and went to the kitchen. 

Conversation B-Brett G-Gabby

G- hey Brett what's up

B- I was just checking in on you and the kids Kelly told us all to be on the look out for Matt and I just wanted to make sure you where okay

G- I am furious with Matt but besides that I am good

B- Why are you mad

G- he expects special treatment because I am his wife, and then after I make it clear he gets no special treatment he doesn't come home.

B- You will get through this Gabby I know it

G- Thanks Brett

B- All of us will let you know if we and when we find Casey

G- Thanks Brett

B- no problem

I walked back in and sat in the chair while the three kids were on the couch. Around ten they went to bed. I walked upstairs to get ready for bed when I heard Alex, and Andy talking. "Why did dad give up on us?" asked Alex sounding like she had been crying I was ready to go in when I heard Andy speak up. "Hey if he gave up on us and mom that is his choice, but I can tell he really loves us Alex remember that okay" he said "thanks Andy" she replied. I went to my room once I was in there I heard Andy go to his and Caleb's room. I closed my door and thought 'I have great kids'. I went to bed and around two in the morning my phone went off, and I checked it was Kelly it was a text saying I haven't found him yet I will keep looking I was angry and scared what if something happened to Matt, but I was also mad at him for what happened on shift today. If Matt suddenly came home I am going to make him sleep on the couch and i will speak with him tomorrow. After thinking for two hours and knowing I wouldn't get any sleep I went down stairs and started cleaning. Around 5:30 the front door opened with a Kelly bringing in a drunk Matt. He laid Matt on the couch, and came over to me. "Found him in a bar all the way across town drunk out of his mind" "thank you Kelly" I said giving him a hug. When Kelly left I went into the kitchen leaving Matt in the living room. At six I went upstairs and put drunk Matt in our room and woke the kids up. "Mom has dad come home" asked Alex "yeah he is just asleep right now" I told her. I will be honest with my kids but when it comes to their father some things are just better left unsaid. The kids went to school, and I went outside for a run. I needed to run off some steam before I yelled at Matt. I don't want to make things worse though we have been fighting ever since I became chief, and this was the last straw. I mean he doesn't call he worries me and his kids, then goes off and gets drunk. When I got home I mowed the lawn since Matt was still drunk. He usually took care of mowing the lawn and I took care of the store runs. It was now noon  and I went inside to see Matt walk down the stairs looking hungover which he was. "Gabby......" he said when he reached me "you didn't call, you worried me and the kids, then Kelly brings you home drunk out of your mind Matt...... what is going on with you." I said close to tears "what is going on with you Gabby?" "what do you mean Matt" "you yell at me in front of my crew" "you disobeyed an order Matt what am I supposed to do give you special treatment" "then you threaten my job" "you wouldn't listen Matt and I can't have that it could get you or someone else killed Matt do you not get that". "You threatened my job and I am just suppose to forgive you" he yelled now "What am I supposed to do when someone disobeys my order give them a pass no I make sure it doesn't happen again." I said anger in my voice "whatever" said Matt grabbing his keys. "Matt where are you going?" "out" was all he said. Now is the time to make the choice. "Matt if you walk out that door on another fight of ours me and the kids won't be here when you come back" I said. Either this would make him stay or break our relationship. He walked out the door. We have been fighting often and whenever we would start getting more into a fight he would leave and get drunk. I have had enough of it, and now he has made his choice. I went upstairs and packed the kids bags, and mine. I had everything packed when they came home. "Mom what is going on" asked Alex "we are going away for a while" I said "where is dad" asked Andy. It was time for me to tell them what is going on and why. "You know me and your dad have been fighting a lot, and whenever it gets worse before it gets better. Well when it gets worse he has walked out and gotten drunk. I don't want you guys to have to deal with that and maybe some space will give me and your dad time to think about our relationship." they just nodded I knew they were upset, but they understood I am trying to do what is best for them.
