Spark Of Life

Chapter 8

Chief was happy the guys where going with me to my reunion. He understands that I need them there, and this time I have a boyfriend which makes the reunion ten times better. I am able to work today so we are working hard to make sure everything is presentable for when we go to the reunion. I was on lights and window cleaning duty, Casey was washing all the turnout gear while vacuuming the inside of the truck, Otis was cleaning the mascot symbol and the ladder, Mouch was cleaning the masks and air tanks, Herman was washing the rig and waxing the helmets, and Cruz was polishing the tools and boots. By the time we had to get ready we all decided to wear our truck 81 shirts with our turnout gear, and our CFD truck 81 baseball caps. We hopped in and when we arrived people where starring at us.When we entered someone asked "Gabby Dawson's party of 6?" "yup that's us" "what is your job Miss Dawson" "I am a firefighter". We walked in and right away Jake came up to us. "Gabby Dawson it is so great to see you" he said leaning in for a kiss I backed away and when I backed up I backed into Casey "Gabby you okay" Casey whispered in my ear I nodded. "What's going on Gabby I try to be nice and kiss my ex girlfriend" "I have a boyfriend Jake" "really?" "yeah".  He looked around and saw all the firemen around me "you a fire fighter?" he asked sounding like there has never been a female fire fighter. "Yeah I am" he nodded and walked away. That's when Mindy came over "Gabby these are all your boyfriends" "no they are my crew the one behind me is my boyfriend". She walked away looking mad and that's when one of her friend walked up to us Beth I hate her too. "So Gabby Mindy will trade you Jake for your boyfriend" "go away Beth" I hate both of them. 

About an hour into this thing my crew could see why I hated high school so much. During  an award ceremony they have I was called up. "Miss Dawson you are the most accomplished in your class you followed your dreams and everyone on your team likes you. Those who most thought would win this award didn't make their life the way they wanted...." they where about to say something else when our radio's went off. 

TRUCK 81, SQUAD 3, AMBO 61 BUILDING COLLAPSE 

I sprinted off the stage, and went to the truck with the crew before even saying anything we were flying to the collapse. We arrived, and hopped out everyone stood around as Casey gave orders, because he is the incident commander. "Dawson take the first building top floor, Otis take 5, Cruz 5, Mouch 4, Herman 3, I will take 2, and Tony from squad will take 1. The rest of squad search the house". We all ran in, and that's when I heard Herman radio "your entire class is here watching" I was happy for once I was doing something important with my life, and they actually cared that I have been doing something important with my life. I went around search, their was a young girl in the room I went in and the door slammed shut. I knew the place would flash soon. Kelly brought the ladder to the window they got the victim out first air was being sucked under the door. The girl was on the ladder if I got on the ladder it would be to heavy ad possible snap killing all three of us. So I had to quick think, and I ran and jumped out the window, and landed in a tree. I got out of the room just as the building flashed catching the back of my turnout gear. I fell on a branch then to the ground it hurt to breathe. I starred up into the night sky trying to breathe easily. My crew standing around me I got up everyone freaking out about me because I jumped out a window, but I know I was fine. Luckily the flames didn't burn through my gear. When the medics checked me out and saw I was okay and told Casey he came over lifted me up and spun me in a circle. He was glad I was okay so was and so was I. Once the fire was out we loaded up, and headed back the firehouse. I was tired, and so was everyone else. 

-NEXT MORNING-

I walk into the common room and the news is on. 

News broadcast W: Winston K: Kate B: Backgound

W: courageous firefighter risks life to save a women and her crew that was on a ladder. 

K: yup so what was happening was there seemed to not be enough room fro her on the ladder. So she doesn't put the victim and her coworker in danger she jumped out a window and was perfectly fine just a little sore.

B: You see Dawson jump out a window and land in a tree then hit the ground

I can't believe that we made the news as a group of heroes. We all sat around thinking about how great the saves where last night. 

-END OF SHIFT-

I was waiting for Casey when I realized that I had to go see my dad's sister. So when Casey walked out I said "can I drive" I gave him the puppy dog eyes because I know he can't say no to that face. "fine" he said what a great guy. I drove somewhere that he didn't know and I parked he  car and whispered in his ear "I will explain later".  He nodded and I walked in Callie looked at me and said "hey Gabby I found your dad's CFD jacket so I just wanted to hand it to you". "Thank you" I said and walked out when Casey aw the jacket he knew right away, just when I sat down in the drivers seat he pulled me into a long slow deep kiss. We kissed for about half an hour then went home. I love this man and I know I love him. 

-AT HOME-

We got home and I saw the light on the answering machine "want a beer" Casey asked "yeah". I pressed the light on the answering machine to hear the message/s. 

Answering Machine

First Message

Herman: Hey Dawson I know tonight you have off, but Cindy is sick so I have to take care of the kids, can you cover for me. Call me back if you can if you can't I get it. 

First Message over

Second Message

Jake: Hey Gabby call me bak

Second Message over

I am never going to call him back. "Gabby?" "I am never calling him back. 

Third Message

Hallie: Casey I love you so much, and you mean the world to me get rid of the Gabby girl and take me back. I love you, and you don't love her you love me. So call me back move in with me or kick her out on the street. Call me
