It was your turn to watch the kids while they play on the playground. The teacher called sick so you had to help the substitute teacher. She never taught kids who were younger than ten years old but she tried. Today is the day of the week when the kids' family come over to see how they're doing. Not many people come but what you pay attention to is Celia's older brother. You noticed that you never see her parents. Just him.
"Hey."
You looked to your left and smiled when you saw Jimin sitting next to you. He had a beanie on and a sweater that you donated to him.
"Hey", you said.
You watched his fingers fidgeting around, like he was nervous.
"So...how long have you been doing this?", he asked.
"Five years. I studied for about two years and transferred to a university. During my second year, one of my professors mentioned a day care that was hiring and said I was perfect for the job. Got hired the same day I had the interview", you said.
"Wow. That's impressive. You must really love kids then", he said.
"I do. I really do. I know a lot of people might say that whoever says 'I really love working with kids' is a liar and has at least one kid they can't stand but for me, that's not the case", you said.
He nodded and switched his attention back to his little sister. Celia was playing with another girl but turned towards us. She smiled and ran over.
"So have you asked her yet??", Celia asked, jumping on her tippy toes.
"Uh Celia..I-", she interrupted Jimin by placing her small hand over his mouth.
"Do you think you can come over for dinner??", she asked, still jumpy.
Your eyes widened, a little surprised and shocked.
"Celia, you can't just ask", Jimin said.
"But...you need friends. You're not happy", she lightly pouted as she looked at the ground.
"Um..I don't mind coming over...if that's okay with you..", you said, turning towards Jimin.
Celia smiled and intertwined her hands together, pleading to Jimin with her eyes.
"Yeah sure. You can come over", he smiled, sighing.
"Yay! He's making spaghetti. It's gonna be so much fun!", she yelled excitedly before heading back to the playground.
Before Jimin could speak, the little bell rang meaning it's time for the kids to head back inside.
When you arrived at your house, you took a shower and got ready. It took you a while to drive all the way to Jimin's house because of traffic but you got there just in time. You knocked on the door and it opened a few seconds later, revealing Jimin and Celia holding flowers.
"Here. These are for you. Oppa told me to give them to you because he was scared", She said, holding the flowers towards you.
"Celia", Jimin whispered.
You chuckled and thanked her for the flowers. As you walked in, Celia was giggling. Jimin pulled the chair for you, thanking him afterwards.
While you ate, Celia kept glancing at both of us, smiling as she ate. You were eating in silence but Celia's fork could be heard hitting her plate as she ate quickly.
"So where are your parents? Are they working? Is that why they're not here?", you asked.
"Mommy and daddy died in a car accident. They're in heaven", Celia said.
"Celia! That's not something you should say", Jimin scolded her.
She put her head down, facing her food.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked", you said.
"You didn't know", Jimin said.
After a while, Celia finished her plate, putting it in the sink.
"Well I'm done. You guys take your time", she smiled as she walked away.
About a second later, the lights dimmed down. You and Jimin looked over where the light switch was and noticed Celia walking away from it, heading into her bedroom as she giggled. When you looked up at Jimin, both of you couldn't help but laugh.
"She's so cute. And very smart", you said.
"Yeah. She's tough. From what she went through, I'm surprised that she's holding up", he said.
"I'm sorry about your parents Jimin. I'm sure they'd be proud of you for taking care of Celia", you said.
"Thanks", he smiled.
The rest of the dinner, you talked about a lot of things. You didn't think you'd have a lot of fun but you did. After dinner, Celia came out of her bedroom and asked if you wanted to play Just Dance. You didn't want to say no so you didn't mind making a fool out of yourself.
It was around 9:30pm already. You had to head home so you can rest.
"Aww but I don't want you to leave", Celia whined as she held onto your hand.
"You'll see her tomorrow. Go get ready for bed. I'll be right there", Jimin said, kneeling down to her level.
With that, she ran back into her room.
Jimin escorted you out, placing his coat around you.
"Thanks Jimin. I enjoyed dinner and had fun playing with Celia", you smiled.
"I had fun too. Maybe some day we can do it again?", he asked, sounding hopeful.
"Yeah. I'd love too", you said.
He smiled at you and didn't realize how close he was to you. You can feel your face burning up. You hadn't noticed how handsome and attractive Jimin was because you were mostly focused on work and school.
"Oppa, kiss her!"
You turned around and chuckled as you saw Celia tapping the window.
"I thought I told you to get ready for bed", Jimin said to her.
"Oh..right..Goodnight Miss (y/n)!", she yelled before heading back towards her bedroom.
"She's a handful", Jimin chuckled.
You were about to go in your car before Jimin stopped you. He quickly kissed your cheek and blushed as he looked at you.
"Goodnight (y/n)", he mumbled shyly.
"Goodnight", you said, trying to hide your smile.
When you arrived home, you couldn't help but smile as you fell asleep.
