Thunder cracked. Lightning lit up the house. Wind whipped against the house. Rain poured ruthlessly against the earth below. As the world outside the Patrick household was noisy and chaotic the inside was calm in comparison. Ashlynn sat curled up under her blankets waiting for the storm to pass. She never enjoyed thunderstorms. Especially when she was young. She recalled the times when she would go to her parents room. Tears usually feel from her eyes as she woke up her parents. Her mom and dad would wake up groggily seeing her shaking before their eyes. She would tremble clutching tighter to her blanket as thunder roared in the background. Her dad would pull her into his arms giving her a big hug as her mother calmed her down with soothing words. Ashlynn smiled at the memories of her parents cooing over her and rubbing her back calmingly as she eventually fell asleep. A pang of sadness came from her chest as she thought about these memories. She missed her parents. They were supposed to be home by now but do to the insane weather their flight had been delayed. They had only been gone for about a week. She still missed them like crazy. Their family had always been close. They were always a team that faced the world together. Thunder once again roared.
"It looks like I am not sleeping for a while." Ashlynn muttered to no one in particular. She got out of bed pulling her blanket around her like she did when she was young. She opened her door and started wondering down the hall. She came across her brothers door. She was surprised to see light flooding in from the bottom of the door and quiet noises from the other side. Ashlynn tapped her knuckles quietly on the door.
"Come in." His voice called out from the other side of the door.
Ashlynn opened the door to see Carter sitting in bed watching something on his television. Kirby, their cat, was curled up in his lap.
"Can't sleep?" He asked looking at his sister with a soft smile. She nodded.
"Would you like to join me and Kirby in watching some live streams?" Carter asked patting a spot on the bed.
Ashlynn smiled and made her way over to the bed to sit next to her brother. Kirby lazily looked up at Ashlynn.
"Hi Kirby cat!" She cooed scratching the cats head. Kirby purred leaning into Ashlynn's hand asking for more pets. She continued to pet him absentmindedly as she looked at the television screen.
"Is that-?" Ashlynn asked only to be cut off by her brother.
"Mom and dad? Yes!" Carter replied with a laugh. "Did you know they used to do frequent live streams before we were born?"
"I remember it was called GTLive! They loved it." Ashlynn recalled with a smile remembering her parents talk fondly of the streams.
"I found the old GTLive channel so I have been watching these old streams." Carter replied nodding at the screen.
"They look so young then. Isn't this when they had Skip?" Ashlynn asked looking at her brother.
"I believe so?" Carter replied. He started scrolling through the homepage of the channel when he came across a particular series.
"Kindergarten? Let's watch it!" Ashlynn said nudging her brother.
Carter clicked on the video and it began to play. The series began and the familiar voices of Matthew and Stephanie filled the room. Carter and Ashlynn couldn't help but laugh at their parents shenanigans on screen. The storm that continued to rage on outside no longer phased the two as they watched their parents on screen. At one point Ashlynn and Carter relaxes against each other watching the television in front of them. They both were under the covers. Ashlynn rested her head on her brother's shoulder and his head was rested on hers. Kirby had moved to lay across the duo's stomachs to get the most warmth he could. This was considered normal for the siblings and cat. It proved the bond between the three as they lounged there. The two siblings got further into the Kindergarten series when a familiar voice broke through the room.
