It had been a long day in the Patrick household. Scratch that it had been a long week in the Patrick household. Stephanie and Matthew were having an emotionally draining week. They were living with the grief of their friend Ronnie no longer being with them. The funeral was yesterday. It was particularly hard on Stephanie. Matthew had something to go to. Stephanie still spent her days at home with Ollie. The week became even more unfortunate as Ollie got sick. It broke Matthew and Stephanie's heart to see him suffering like this. Stephanie volunteered to stay home with Oliver much to Matthew's complaint. He wanted to be there with her taking care of their son together. However, work dragged Matthew away. They had to continue with life even though their friend was gone.
Matthew came home after a surprisingly good day at the office. Everything seemed to be looking slightly brighter. He was learning to live with his grief instead of fighting with it. He walked through the door to find Stephanie and Ollie on the couch.
Stephanie and Oliver were both crying.
"Ollie please stop crying! Your dad will be home soon." Stephanie asked in a hushed voice as she rocked him back and forth in her arms.
Despite her best attempts Oliver continued to cry and Matthew could see tears falling from Stephanie's face. Matthew walked over to the both of them and gave them a hug.
"Matthew your back." Stephanie sighed in relief leaning into her husband.
Matthew said nothing instead opting to kiss her on the head taking Oliver out of her arms.
"Hi Ollie. It is time to make you into my little Ollie-roll!" Matthew cooed.
Matthew always seemed to know how to calm down Ollie. This was the best way. Matthew would make him into what he called an Ollie-roll. In one arm Matthew held Ollie as he laid a blanket on the ground. He put Ollie laying on the blanked. With the epic dad skills Matthew had picked up he wrapped Oliver up like a sushi. He then picked up the Ollie-roll in his arms making a whooshing sound making Oliver laugh. He had the most pure laugh. He hugged Ollie close and the baby stopped crying. He finally calmed down enough to sleep.
"Thank you Matthew!" Stephanie thanked quietly as Matthew put Oliver in the crib they had set up in the main room.
"Of course Stephanie." Matthew replied kissing her quickly.
He once again grabbed another blanket, this one being an adult sized one, and placing it on the ground. He walked over to Stephanie and quite literally swept her off her feet.
"Matthew what are you doing?" She exclaimed quietly.
"Ollie wasn't the only one crying when I came in. Now it is my job to make you happy." Matthew responded with a bright smile. He then proceeded to lay Stephanie on the blanket and roll her up like he did with Ollie. He then placed her on the couch. He gave her a tight hug as she began to cry again. He hushed her making sure she knew he was there. Once the last of her tears had fallen he put on Pride and Prejudice. It brought a small smile to her face. He left her to watch the movie as he went into the kitchen to bring out snacks and water.
For the rest of that night Matthew and Stephanie ate snacks and drank water watching the movie. They didn't finish it due to the fact the were both exhausted. They both ended up falling asleep against each other in the comfort of one another.
