I am apart of the GTLive community along with many of my friends. Many of them have incredible stories with these two wonderful people so I thought I would try my hand in one shots. Most of these will be fluffy and cute.
Fires in California are just a fact of life at this point. We were used to it at this point which made it just as terrifying as it was comfortable. It was an early Monday morning when we got the message. Sunlight was creeping from the window into our room. The house was still and quiet almost as if it to was sleeping. Matthew and I were in bed enjoying the cuteness of Oliver who was laying on Matthew's chest. He was making some cute cooing noises as Matthew sang quietly. What song was he singing? Neither of us could recall. It was probably a mixture of the melodies of the shows we started having Oliver watch. It was surprisingly calm as Skip jumped onto the bed and laid down next to me. That is when our phones went off simultaneously. All four of us jumped as I grabbed my phone.
The message was simple. We needed to leave and we needed to be out by the end of today otherwise we would be in danger. I read the message out loud in my calmest voice knowing that Oliver would pick up on the distress in my voice. Matthew and I shared the same worried look. We needed to get out of here. It was a quiet agreement that Matthew would pack up and get ready to evacuate while I tell the members of Team Theorist and business partners.
By that afternoon our car was packed. Oliver, Skip, Matthew, and I were ready to go. Our emploies that lived in the area were told to keep the fire at top priority. If they needed to leave they could. Their safety was the most important. Our editors knew of our situation along with our business associates. So we left our home wondering if we would ever see it again.
Matthew and I have often been called over prepared. We were teased about it all the time at the office and by our employers. However, it is times like these it was important that we were so prepared. Matthew and I had talked about the fires happening in our area. We had a game plan for this moment just in case it happened. It was lucky that we were that prepared. We called up a place Matthew and I looked at before. We had planned on staying at an Air BnB just in case that happened.
"I hope everything will be okay." I said quietly looking at Matthew.
"Everything will be okay Stephanie. Everything I need is in this car. How are they doing back there?" Matthew replied not taking his eyes off the road but offering a small smile in support.
Oliver was tuckered out. His small hands were curled into fists as he dreamed peacefully. He looked adorable in his Incredibles outfit that Safyia and Tyler had given to us. He was so peaceful despite the situation at hand. It was so different then how I was feeling. I felt like crying. Even though Matthew and I were prepared it didn't make us any more terrified. Even Skip, who was in a cage we bought for something like this, was curled up asleep. His tail would twitch in his sleep.
"They look so peaceful." I said with a happy sigh.
The forest fires are an awful and terrible thing impacting many lives in California and around the country. Homes and businesses are at risk of being destroyed. Matthew is right though. Everything I need is in this car. My loving husband. My precious son. My quirky cat. As long as I have them everything will be okay,
