I woke up, stretched, and started the day ahead of me. Then, I smiled at the bunk above me mischievously. Grabbing my pillow, I sneaked up the ladder as quietly as possible. Then, I began wacking my brother in the face mercilessly. "Whatcha do that for?" He whisper yelled, still half asleep.
"Good morning to you too, my dear brother." I said sweetly, batting my eyelashes.
I half climbed, half was pushed down the ladder, grabbed my stuff, and headed to the washroom to get ready.
When I came back, I began to make my bed, when I saw that Anthony was still asleep. I picked up my pillow from it's current state on the floor, and reclimbed the ladder. Once I reached the top, I began another wacking spree. "Alright, alright I'm up."
Grinning in victory, I climbed back down the ladder, and continued to straighten my blankets. A few minutes later, Anthony emerged from the bathroom. "Hey Mellie, circulation bells gonna ring soon." He said, ruffling my hair. I pinned it up and stuffed it in my cap. Taking a small box from underneath the bed, I counted a dollars worth of coins and dropped them in my pocket. I had been a newsies for two weeks now, and it had been the happiest two weeks of my life.  "Where is it that ya sell again?"
"I'm never telling you, or anyone else."
Time Skip (zoom)
I was next in line to get my papers. Soon it was my turn.
"How many papers for ya this time, sweet cheeks?" Oscar cockily smirked.
"Hmmm, I'll have, a hundred and, let's see, three." I countered, returning the smirk. The brothers groaned at my unusual order. They handed me my papers, and I slid 57 cents over to Weasel. Taking an extra penny from my pocket, I slid it around my hands. "Here." I said, flicking the coin so it bounced of Oscar's head.
"Buy yourself something nice."
Another Time Skip
It was almost two o'clock. I was having lunch in a cheap restaurant a few blocks away from the station. I had five papers left, but I would probably sell them on the way back to the lounging house.
Out of either boredom or curiosity, I grabbed one of the papers and began to read it. On the second page, I found an article that caught my eye. Felon Suddenly Bailed from Jail. I munched on my sandwich as I skimmed through the article. But when I saw the name of the felon, I almost choked. George Higgins.
Wassup! Sorry for the weird notifications, I had some technical difficulties and had to rewrite the chapter! Hope you liked it, please don't forget to vote!
