First things first, I broke 250 reads on the first book! That's awesome! I love exclamation marks! Thanks you guys for continuing to read. Anyway, on with the story!
"Anthony?" I called from my little bed near the window. Please be awake, I thought to myself.
"Yeah Mellie?" He answered from across the room. "What is it?"
"I'm scared."
"Did you have another nightmare?"
I nodded. He came over and sat at the edge of my bed. "What happened?"
"Dad came home drunk, and started hurting us again."
He pulled me into a hug. "I'm never letting him hurt you, never."
I raised my eyebrows. "Never?"
"Never."
"Never ever?"
"Never ever."
I giggled. "Never ever smether?"
He laughed. "Never ever smether."
"Never ever sme-"
"Get some sleep, Mellie." He said, pulling the blankets up to my chin. "Big day tomorrow."
I stuck my tongue out at him, but obeyed.

I practically sprinted to the racetracks. "Anthony!" I shouted. "Anthony!"
I found him placing odds against a man in a grey suit. I made a mental note to slap him for that later. He turned around. "What is it? I was about to make some dough." When he looked at my currently panicked state, his expression softened.
"They bailed Dad out of jail." I said, between pants.
"You must be joking. It would take thousands to bail out Dad."
I showed him the article. His eyes widened as he realized I was telling the truth.
Our grandfather had died, and left all his money to our Uncle Henry, who had used it plus his own savings to bail our father out.
"We are going back to the lounging house. Right now." After taking the man's money, he grabbed my hand, and we left, even though I could see at least a score of papers still in his bag.

Jack, Katherine, and the guys came back around six. "Why weren't ya at Jacobi's?"
Crutchie asked, when he saw me and Anthony.
Rising from the bed, I walked over to Crutchie and hugged him. He hugged back, but was obviously confused. When he saw my tear stained cheeks, confusion turned to anger. "What the hell happened?" He asked.
I handed him the paper, and pointed to the article. Jack ripped it from his hands. He turned to me.
"This is true?"
I nodded. Crutchie just looked from me, to Jack, to Anthony, then back to me. "I'm gonna ask this again. What the hell happened?"
Anthony sighed and explained it to him. "Our father was bailed from jail."
