Once we exited the distribution outlet, I tried to give my change back to Anthony. He refused. "Let's face it, youse need it way more than Ise do." Normally I'd protest, but he was right. I nodded and slid the coins back into my pocket.
"Hey, think you could show me the ropes a little bit?"
"Nah," he said, scratching the back of his head."Youse don't want me to teach ya, youse want Jack."
Taking his advice, I quickened my stride to catch up with Jack and Crutchie's."Hey Jack, think you could teach me how to sell today?"
"Ya sure."
Time Skip
After Jack had shown me the basics, I spent the afternoon trying to find my own selling spot.
Wandering through the city was a lot more relaxing now that Snyder was in the pen. Selling my papes on the way, I made my way to the Brooklyn bridge.  It was breathtaking. After I crossed it, I began to wander into Brooklyn. Over here, the streets were much rougher and tougher. As it got darker, I started to get scared and began to turn around, when a man grabbed my arm.
"Wheeere are yooou goooing sweeethart?" He drawled, and I could smell the stench of liquor on his breath. I tried to loosen his grip, but even though he was drunk, he was still much stronger than me. He dragged me into an alleyway, and pushed me against the wall. I closed my eyes, bracing for a punch, but it never came.
I slowly opened my eyes, to see a boy about Jack's age beating the guy up. I honestly didn't know what to do. When the boy was done, he turned back to me. "Are youse okayWhat's a girl like you doing over here?"
"I was just wondering around, trying to find a selling spot."
For the first time, the boy saw my hat and bag and realized I was a newsie. And he didn't take to that news kindly.
"Why ya selling on my turf?" He said, narrowing his eyes.  Mine widened.
"Jack didn't tell me about any turf." I said, taking a few steps back.
"Oh, so your from 'Hatten?" He asked.
"Yeah. Names Melody."
"Spot." We spit shook, and he glanced at the sky. "It's getting pretty late, why don't youse come back to the Brooklyn lodging house, and I'll take youse home in the mornin."
I nodded and followed him to a building that didn't look much different than the Manhattan lodging house. He showed me to an empty bunk, and I sat my stuff down. A few minutes later, I drifted of to sleep, hoping the boys wouldn't be too worried.

Wassup! K, so I'm sorry it took me
