I woke up in the spare room. I walked over to the washstand, and splashed some water on my face and brushed my teeth. I looked in the mirror. Time to start the day. I put on the blue dress then attempted to tame my hair. Then Katherine came in.
"Do you want me to do your hair?"
I nodded, and taking a brush, she combed it out then pinned it into a neat bun. I was out of practice, since usually I would do a messy one and stuff it in my cap. I placed my hat on the nightstand, hung my shirt and vest, and folded the pants into a drawer at the bottom of the wardrobe.
Once I had put everything away, we went into the kitchen. Over breakfast, Katherine began to tell me what the days events were to be.
"Today I have to work, but I would love for you to come with me, but you might want to take something to do." She said. I agreed, and went back to my room to grab the book. She handed me a hat, and together we set out to The Sun's building. When we got here, I checked in as a visitor with the secretary at the front desk. Then I followed her into an office slightly larger then the janitor's closet.
There were hundreds of newspaper clippings tacked to the walls, a messy bookcase in one corner which held jars of various office supplies and a set of encyclopedias, though the letter M was missing. In another corner, an old scuffed up desk stood, with a wooden chair with a beat up cushion pushed into it. On the desk, there was a rusted type-writer, a mug of various writing utensils, and the M encyclopedia sprawled on page 394. In the last corner, there was another wooden chair, which I took a seat in, pulled out my book, and began to read.
A few hours later, a sharp knock at the door interrupted me from my reading, making me scowl in annoyance. "Come in." Katherine said, and the door opened, revealing an odd looking young man. He was very tall, but really scrawny, with rounded glasses and a cream-colored fedora.
Katherine looked up. "Darcy!" She said with a smile. I however, continued to glare. You just don't interrupt me while I'm reading. But Katherine seems to like him, so whatever.
"Who's that?" Darcy asked, raising an eyebrow.
"That's my friend, Melody. She's staying with me for a week or so." Katherine said, nodding towards me. Eyebrow still raised, he stared at me for a long moment. When he saw that I had caught on, he looked back to Katherine.
"Well, I was wondering if you and your.. friend would like to come with me to lunch."
"Sure." Katherine said. "Just let me finish this page." That left Darcy standing awkwardly in the doorway for a minute. Soon enough though, Katherine got up, and we departed to Mr. Jacobi's.

Once we were there, Darcy and Katherine started a conversation while I picked quietly at my food. Passing time, I looked around the familiar restaurant, when a figure at table 9 caught my eye. He looked really familiar. Then he turned his head, and locked eyes with mine. My eyes widened.
I turned back to Katherine and Darcy.
"We need to leave. Now."
