Crystal Clear:
Chapter 1
Cara's Point Of View
My friends used to tell me that I wasn't normal, but only because I had a strange love for school. It's just so easy for me! Of course I wouldn't tell my mom that, she would only tell my teachers and I'd be in some trig class. I honestly didn't want to be challenged, I just wanted to finish school and move on. I do hate the people in my high school. I remember my freshmen year, I was kinda bullied at first. Thankfully, I had my best friends and my brother who would stick up for me.
When I was in middle school, I didn't care about my looks. I always wore overalls and high waisted jeans. I loved the hippie look and I always wished I was born a decade or so earlier just for that. My friends always called me and 'old soul'. I didn't mind it because, It wasn't an insult. But once I became a freshmen, people started calling me old disco Mason, or hippie dippie Mason. I honestly didn't care because one day, I would never see them again. But one of my best friend's gave me a huge makeover. Ever since then, the name calling vanished and I was known as the super smart and hot volleyball captain. So I have her to thank for that. I soon realized how fake people could really be and just remained close with my best friends. They're the only people I can trust besides my family. Ava and Becca are annoying sometimes, but that's what friends are for.
It's funny because, we were completely opposite from each other! Ava's the best on the swim team, and Becca's captain of the cheer leading team. Ava only enjoys the friends aspect of school, (not so much the learning part) and Becca hated school all together. (she only enjoyed the extracurricular activities...)
I knew both of them the same amount of time.
Ava and I met in the third grade at our first softball practice. To me, at 8 years old, she pitched the fastest ball in the history of fast pitches. Struck me out too! I was so upset that day, but then she came over to me after practice and made me feel a lot better. We went out for ice-cream after that and talked and laughed about almost everything. Ava's what I call a 'normal girl'. She isn't rich, but she isn't poor either. She was the average height, the average weight and everything. She listened to pop music and had a really good singing voice. I just see her as the normal friend. A little bit of a tomboy, but she has her super girly moments. Most of the time, she's pretty down to Earth with a very laid back personality. She's somewhat shy, but people only think that because she's quiet.
The same exact day later that afternoon, my dad and I went back home to find new neighbors; the Arlington's.
They looked like the perfect family to my brother and I. They all jumped out of their mini-van excitedly, running around and chasing each other, calling dibs on which room they were going to have, except Rebbecca. She got out like a little princess, and walked like a little princess. She had 3 brothers and 1 sister. When she saw my brother and I, she smiled and came over to immediately introduced herself.
"Hello, I'm Rebecca Marie Abbington." She stuck out her hand and my brother shook it smiling,
"Christopher Michael Mason!" My brothers says happily. I took her hand reluctantly, not used to the strange bubbly attitude.
"Cara Mason". I replied. She was a year older than me, but extremely short. She told me all about her old home in California and how she hoped that one day she was going to be miss California or even miss USA. It was funny to me how she aimed for these huge goals for herself at age eight, but we became friends in an instant, and Chris fell in love with her that very day.
Becca, to me, isn't normal at all. She has many flaws and attributes, but that's why she's my friend! She's very funny and such a huge diva! But a lot of people see her as the ditzy blonde head cheerleader who isn't that smart. She doesn't mind people thinking that because I told her once that , it really doesn't matter what strangers think of you, it's the people who are close to you that counts. And we all love her.
They're the closest friends I've ever had. I told them everything. And although the social life and cliques in high school were very strict. We still found our ways to hang out and have fun.
I turned over on my back on my bed and stared at the ceiling. People come and go, but friends stay for a lifetime, I told myself. They were there for me through it all. Through the heartbreaks, the sicknesses, the disappointments, and all the fun times. I love them, like my family. They're my sisters. And I wouldn't replace them with anyone in the world...
My phone rang then. I got up to get it off of my desk and answered without looking to see who it is.
"Hello?" I said into the phone.
"Hey girl, what's up?" It was Ava. She sounded excited which was highly unusual.
"Nothing? What's with the giddy mood?" I replied with a confused tone. She squealed, which I hated and which she never does.
"Alex Shepherd asked me out at practice today!" She all but screamed in my ear. This was indeed a big deal. She's liked this dude since 5th grade. They were always pretty good friends but Ava was more of a tomboy. She loved sports and was always talking about the latest game on TV with the guys.
"So? What happened?" I said. She took a deep breath and sighed dramatically.
"Well. I bet him I could beat him in a one on one race in the school pool. And when I beat him," She giggled under her breath."He got out and asked me if I wanted to go to Jerry's party with him this Saturday!" I was so happy for her! I mean a party!? With Alex Shepherd? This is huge.
"But.." She said sheepishly. Oh boy, here it goes.
"But what Ava?" I said with a playfully harsh tone.
"He wants to double date. Keith is going too, and Cara, he wants to take you!" I all but gasped. Keith Remmingway. Captain of the football, soccer, and lacrosse team, wants to take me, Cara Mason, to a party? I couldn't believe it! He was my crush since 2nd grade. I loved him, not to sound creepy, but I did! This was insane. I didn't even think he knew who I was!
"Details, Ava, details!" I all but screamed.
"Okay. So this Saturday they'll pick us up at 8:30. You can come over my house so it wont be too much and we'll get ready there. Apparently they're taking Keith's car so be prepared." Keith's car was a beauty! His parents were loaded, so he's got the best of the best. A 2010 black Porsche. It was gorgeous. I shook my head still not believing any of this.
"Are you sure you didn't mean to call Beca?"
"Nope, its you! Cara Mason." I was beyond shocked. I told her I'll call her back. I needed to let all this soak in. I ended the call and sat on my bed. Keith Remmingway. Wow. At that moment my brother Chris came into my room.
"I'm going out with Beca to get ice-cream. She wants to know if you wanna come with." He looked irritated. That's what he gets for dating my best friend. He was my twin, older than me by 37 seconds. They've been together since freshmen year. I decided that I would go, just to annoy him. He grunted and walked out. My little sister Leah kept begging to go with us but Chris told her no. Bad enough I had to tag along. We walked out to his truck and were on our way.
