Chapter 5

Keith Remmingway

Cara Mason. I liked this girl for as long as I can remember. She's beautiful. Long blonde hair. About 5'5 maybe. Long legs, overall great body. Pretty smile, big brown eyes. She's just gorgeous. She's also beautiful on the inside. Great sense on humor, smart, very sweet, responsible, and caring to everyone. Of course I didn't have the guts to ask her out myself, so I chickened out and asked Alex to ask for me. He was going to ask Ava Divine out anyway, so why not? I know I'm a wimp but I just couldn't. So he asked her and we were all set for Saturday night. So on Saturday night I had to pick the girls up. We got to Ava's house and Alex rings the door bell.

"Goodnight Mrs. Divine."

"Oh you must be Alex! And you?"

"Keith, Keith Remmingway ma'am." I say. She was a big woman, but such a friendly person.

"Take it easy with my baby Alex, Ava's special, but she'll rip y'all ta' pieces if you get on her bad side." We both laughed even though I know that made Alex nervous.

"Do y'all want somthin' to eat?"

"I think they're fine mom." I hear Ava say as she walks down the stairs with Rebbecca Arliington behind her. And then I see Cara. She looks so good! I was just shocked. Ava kisses her mom goodbye and tells her that we'll be back by 12. Mrs.Divine pulls the girls aside to talk to them and I continue to stare at Cara.

"Ava looks hot!" Alex whispers.

"Don't blow it man, she's a nice girl." I whisper.

"Yeah, but I'm not into the whole relationship thing. Not my style, you know?" He says. I pul my gaze from Cara and stare at Alex.

"Seriously man?" I bark.

"Yeah! I mean, I just need a little action. I have needs! And I want her to fill them." He says. He sounds like a complete pig and I was contemplating on wheter or not I should hit him.

"Don't break her heart..."

"You sounds mad whimpy dude..." He says. The girls come our way then and Ava kisses her mom goodbye and tells her that we'll be back by 11. Then I see Chris come running up the front porch steps.

"Sorry I'm late babe." He says. Beca takes his hand and walks with him toward the car. Alex offers his arm to Ava and she blushes and takes it. I look at Cara and smile. She just looks so pretty.

"You look great Cara." I offer my arm just as Alex did and led her to my car.

"Thank you." She smiles. We get to the car and I drove off and we were on our way.

When we got to the party, Jerry greeted us. Me and Cara went into the kitchen. I was trying to offer her a drink but I was really hopping that she wouldn't be a drinker. Gratefully she wasn't.

"I have a question," She says. I nod giving her the okay. "Why did you ask me to go to this party with you?" I look at her, into her eyes. She's serious! I thought for a moment. I knew she would eventually ask me this. I took a deep breath, "Because I like you." I reply. She smiles and I see her blush for the first time.

"But we barely talk. We have like three classes together, I only see you because of my brother and you never talk to me then either. I didn't even think you thought I existed." I thought again about what she said. Interesting. Who would've thunk.

"Well. I definitely new you existed Cara. Especially because of your brother. I never talked to you because I liked you. I'm older now, I'm more mature, and I want to get to know you." She smiles and looks down at the ground.

I look at her seriously and say, "So, what's your favorite color?" She laughed so loudly. I've never seen her laugh like that before. She finally collects herself and says, "Are you serious?" I nod seriously and her face changes.

"I don't know, pink, I guess." She replies. She says it as if she doesn't know, which I thought was cute.

"Mine's red. What kind of music do you like?" I say.

I want to know everything about her. What she likes and what she doesn't.

After a long time of talking and laughing she realized how late it was getting and excused herself to the bathroom. I sat there and looked at the sky. I looked for Orion's belt and the big dipper. I looked at the moon and thought about it. I thought about how even though the moon isn't a living thing, it must get lonely, it must yearn for companionship. I shook my head in disbelief. What was wrong with me? I realized that Cara was taking longer than I thought.

I pulled out my cell phone and saw I had a message from my sister Kaitlynn. She wanted to know how the night was going. My sister and I are really close. She's 26 years old and moved out years ago. She's already married and has one child. A son, already 18 months. I told her about how great Cara was and that I wanted to ask her out to dinner the next night. She suggested a few restaurants and things to talk about.

I look up and see Cara smiling at me. I smile back and tell her that it was time to go. I ask her if she knows where the others are and she tells me to follow her. She leads me down Jerry's hallway and I see Alex and Ava making out. It was awkward... Ava was clearly embarrassed, I saw Alex chuckle quietly. I playfully punched his arm to keep him quiet. We found Chris and Rebecka on the way out.

When we got home the girls looked tired. I opened Cara's door and was the last one to walk her to her door. I looked at her and smiled. She's just gorgeous. I wanted to be with her, I wanted to be the one to make her happy.

"Had a good time?" I ask. She smiles at me and nods.

"Do you want to go out with me to dinner tomorrow night?" I ask. I just wanted to get it over with.

"That'd be nice. I'd love to." I smile and hear Alex beep the horn at me.

"Well, I don't kiss on the first date. But I do know a lot about you now." I brushes the hair out of her face and kiss my her forehead lightly.

"Goodnight Cara Mason." I let go of her hand and walk back to my car. I knew if I stayed any longer, I would've kissed her.
