Chapter 29

Cara

A month has passed now. It was almost thanksgiving and I wouldn’t be able to spend it with my family this year. Ava and I were staying at a motel. I refused to stay at her cousin Ciarra’s house. It’s not that I had anything against her; it’s just that there is no room. I was 6 months pregnant and aching like crazy. My stomach was so big and I hated it. It prevented me from doing a lot. Ava was 5 months pregnant and even though she was scheduled to have her first ultrasound, she missed it. Every appointment she made she missed. And what’s really weird is the fact that Ava’s stomach was barely even growing. It was as if she didn’t gain any weight after month four. She would just tell me that it’s because of her appetite. She apparently didn’t eat much. After a while, she told me that she didn’t want to find out the gender of her baby. I was shocked because that was all she really talked about!

“Yah, I just want to be surprised. You know those TV shows where the lady finds out she’s having a girl once it comes out. I just think it’s more momentous.”

“But what about the baby shower?” I asked.

“I don’t know. Maybe I won’t have one. We can’t afford it anyway.”

“Ava, it’s just part of the pregnancy.” I whine.

“I understand that, but it’s just how I feel. If I don’t want to know the gender of the baby before It comes out then I don’t have to.” She says. I sigh and shake my head. She’s such a sweetheart but she can be so stubborn sometimes…

We had gone back to the house to get more of our things. We had to take a taxi because we left both cars at the house. I still had the keys so I didn’t have to wait until Keith got home anyway. It would be hard to see him. We lucked out that day too because he wasn’t even home. We only got the necessities. I got all my clothes and some plates and silverware. The house was a mess. There were beer cans everywhere! I saw rolled up napkins and chip bags all over the couches. He had left the TV on and the remote needed a change of batteries. In the kitchen there were dirty dishes in the sink. All the pots were untouched so he probably didn’t cook. There were bags of trash by the back door and it smelled so bad. Ava was holding her nose the entire time. She offered to help clean up but I told her not to bother. She told me that she was going to the basement to get her things.

The dining room looked nice at least. He probably never ate in there anyway. I went upstairs and looked into the girls’ nursery. I smiled, it was untouched. Nothing was moved and it just looked beautiful in there. Sadly, they’d never be able to see it. I sighed and waddled over to what was supposed to be our room. I sighed and sat on the bed. The sheets were stained and it smelled really bad. There were dirty socks everywhere along with boxers and t-shirts. I went over to my closet and started taking my things out. I had gotten everything I needed and left the room sadly. As I was walking out of the room, I noticed that there was a picture frame on his bedside table. I was in it, pregnant and smiling. I was probably about 3 months pregnant. I looked so happy. I felt my eyes tear up and tried to get out of there as soon as possible. I walked downstairs looking for Ava and she was at the top of the basement stairs holding a pink thong that looked like it was bedazzled!

“Ava, what the hell is that?” I ask. She was holding it as if it was disease infested.

“I found it on my bed…” She says quietly.

“That’s not yours, is it?” I ask reluctantly.

“No way! There’s no way I would wear this! I thought it was yours!” She said.

“Then whose is it!?” I ask. We both stare at each other. No freaking way. Keith was sleeping with other girls? I know we broke up, but, this was very…shocking!
