Chapter 31

Cara

I thought for a moment. What Ava had told me was out of place for Ciarra to say to her. It was insensitive as well. Why would someone who cares about her tell her that her baby is…isn’t alive? Especially with all her hormones racing and aches and pains. I thought it was very rude and strange to hear coming from someone who has two children already.

“Why would she say that?” I asked.

“Well, apparently I’m not growing at a normal pace. But everyone’s pregnancy is different! Right?” She asked me. Yah, to some degree she was right. I mean, her stomach wasn’t going to be as big as mine because I was having twins. Maybe what I was noticing was the fact that she was only having one child. She did seem smaller to me, but that didn’t mean her baby wasn’t…alive.

“You’re right. She was definitely wrong, I can tell you that. And that was extremely insensitive! Doesn’t she know how sensitive you are, even without the pregnancy!?” I said. She just shakes her head with a frown on her face.

I walk over to the kitchenette that we had to make some tea. Ava loved tea and it always seemed to calm her down. I was more of a coffee person. It just woke me right up and I’d be ready for the day. I only drank tea with Ava and my grandmother. She noticed what I was doing and smiled.

“You always know exactly what I need.” She said. I laughed at her comment.

“The only thing you ever need at times like this is tea!” I said. She laughed and walked over to me.

“So how is Chris?” She asked. I smile, thinking back to how proud I was of him.

“You wouldn’t believe it Ava. I went over to Becca’s house and her little brother told me she wasn’t there and she didn’t live there anymore.”

“What? So where are they now?” She asked.

“They moved into their own apartment!” I said.

“No way, so they have their own space and they pay for it?” She asked.

“Yah and the funny thing is Becca refuses to take any of her mother’s money. They’ve been living in this cute little apartment all this time.” I told her.

“Wow, who would’ve thought that Becca would be the one to refuse money.” She said. I nodded in agreement and she smiled.

“Oh, I have good news!” I said. She puts her hands on her hips and does one of those ‘what now?’ poses.

“Oh c’mon, it is good news! So Remember Angelina Borges?” I asked.

“Do you mean the girl on the volleyball team?” She asked. I nodded.

“What about her?” She said.

“Well, I ran into her on my way to Becca’s house and we chatted for a bit. She was on her way to her mom’s realty agency. So I called her later and told her I wanted to talk to her mom. Her mom and I talked and I asked her if she could help us find a good apartment that we could afford.”

“We can’t afford any apartment Cara.” Ava said mater of factly. I roll my eyes and shove her should a little.

“But wait! She said she would but under one condition. She told me she would do it for free and she would pay for the down payment along with the first months rent!” I practically yelled.

“You’re joking right!? Cara, this is great! But…how are we going to pay for the rest of the months if we don’t have jobs?” She says.

“I didn’t get to that part yet. So she told me the condition is I have to work at her agency to pay for rent. Can you believe it!? It’s like a miracle!” I said.
