Kane smiled and pulled out a small tan book.
"What is that?" I said squinting.
"Zombie Surival Guide," Kane whistled.
"WHAT?! EEP! OhmyJoeyRamone Max Brooks is my idol!" Nattie squealed, swerving in the road to look back and get a glimpse at the alledged book.
"NATTIE," I fumed, gripping the nearest thing to me, "PAY ATTENTION TO THE FREAKING ROAD!"
"Sorry!" she bubbled, good naturedly.
She would NOT be driving the whole trip.
I sighed, still gripping whatever I had been holding on to. Turns out it had been Spencer's arm.
"Oh Spence!" I squeaked, releasing his arm. Little white marks in the shapes of my fingers faded from his lightly tanned skin.
"No bigs, Iron Claw," he said smiling painfully, and punching me in the arm.
I sighed and lay back down on. "Kane, you drive for awhile."
There were sounds of discontent from the front seat. "Awwwww Haeeeeelyyyyyyyyy."
"Can it Nat, you've put my life in danger way too much in the past hour."
"Finnneeee." The tires squealed in protest as she brought the car to a too sudden stop, pulling over to the side of the road. She sighed.
"Well?" I said smirking.
"I'm comin', I'm comin'."
Just as she started climbing to the back, we heard a low rumble.
"Nat...Nat was that your stomach?" I asked smiling, raising my eyebrows.
He face was grave though. "No Haely it wasn't."
We all looked at each other, and panic rose up in my throat."
"Well what was it then?" I breathed, my voice an octave higher tham usual.
"Haely, it's okay, just be calm," Spencer said, rubbing the inside of my wrist with his thumb, " I really can't let you have a panic attack right now, I need you here. I need you cool, calm, and focused, okay?"
I swallowed and nodded. "I can do that."
Kane hopped over to the front seat and laughed. "Heey guys, check this guy out!" He said tapping on the window class. Outside the van, there was a mailman. A zombie mailman. He lethargically and without motivation, chomped at Kane's finger.
"What's funny about that?!" I screeched, "Kill it!"
Kane stuck his tongue out at me and rolled the window down about two inches. "Hey toss me that," he said pointing towards the weapon pile. Spencer raised up a pistol in question. Kane shook his head, and pointed again. This time Spencer raised up a rifle. Kane nodded and mimed for him to toss it to him.
Spencer tossed it.
"Is he really gonna kill it?" I sqeaked.
"Well yeah! Totally metal right?!" Nattie giggled excitedly, giving me the METAL hand gesture. (\m/)
"But isn't he just sick? What if theres a cure?" I whimpered.
"There's no cure, Haely." Kane said, not looking away from his target.
I buried my face in Spencer's chest, trying to block out my surroundings. He sighed and pushed a peice of hair behind my ear. "You're okay, Hae."
Kane fired and I jumped.
"Got him!" he said excitedly, climbing into the drivers seat. " Nattie get up here and ride shotgun!"
"Yay for literal speaking!" She clapped, climbing up front.
"Technically, that's a rifle you got there." Kane said laughing.
She just glared at him. He backed off and I started laughing.
"You okay?" Spencer asked, leaning back. I looked up at him and smiled.
"Yeah. Thanks for being the best guy friend ever, and not trying to like, get with me." I smiled.
A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. "What are friends for? Now Get some sleep." He whispered.
I nodded and crawled to the other side of the van, and made myself a makeshift bed.
"Night Spence," I yawned.
"Goodnight Haely."
