After another thirty minute delay the Umpires finally told us the game was cancelled. Some people cheered and others groaned. I was silent. Ryan found me at my car. "Hey you leaving? Everyone from the team is going to Pizza Hut. You want to come?" He asked. He begged me more than asked me.
"I got to get some stuff sorted out. Maybe next time," I say.
"That's fine. Hey next game you have I'm going to come. My parents would like to go too. They always tell me how great you are. It's really annoying. They don't like my Nicole. They think you would make a better girlfriend," I couldn't help but laugh. Nicole was the perfect girlfriend for Ryan. She loved him and he loved her. They've been dating for three years. They even got couple of the year in the yearbook last year.
"I'm sorry. That's not funny," I say laughing.
"No it's not," he agrees with a frown.
"You're like my little brother Ryan. Besides I could never see myself with you, no offense," I say lightly.
"You know when you say 'no offense' to someone that doesn't make everything better. If anything it makes it worse." He pauses. "But don't worry about it. I love Nicole and wouldn't give her up for the world. And Jenny I know you wouldn't date me. But I know who you would," he smirks at me.
I swear if he knows about me likening Parker I will threaten him until he promises not to tell anyone. Instead I asked what he was talking about.
"Come on. You and I both know who you like," he says.
"Who knows who who likes?" I hear a voice behind me say. I recognized the voice before I saw the face. With him I always did. It's just the way my mind functions.
"No one," I answer right away.
"Fine don't tell me. Jenny can I catch a ride home. I'm not in the mood for pizza," Parker tells me.
"You don't have to eat the pizza," I say.
"Well why would you go somewhere and not eat. Where is the sense in that?" Ryan asks. I glare at him a sinister glare. He slyly smiles, wiggles his eyebrows, and takes a step back. "I'll let you two argue this on your own." And with that, he turns and sprints away.
"Why does everyone think I argue with everyone?" I call to him.
"Because you do!" he shouts over his shoulder. I sigh and turn around to Parker.
"You do have the tenden-" I hold up my hand.
"Save it. Get in. And make it quick. I have things to do when I get home," I instruct. I open my car door and hop in. I buckle my seat belt and then start the car. I watched him get in the car. The minute he closed the door, I backed out of the parking space. This is going to be a short but long ride.
