Sometimes Knowing Hurts

Charlie Knows

(ANNA POV)

"I love you, Jacob Black," I tell him. He then kisses me and it's like a bomb went off. Cheesy, I know but it just feels so right. We sit and stargaze for a little bit before going in and falling asleep. The next morning Seth, Jake, and I look outside to where Rosalie is playing with Renesmee. Jake and Seth eat the sandwiches that Esme and I made them. I turn to see Bella and Edward walk in.

"Wow. Done already?" Emmett asks from where he is sitting and reading the paper.

"Where's Renesmee?" Bella asks.

"Blondie stole her," Seth says as he stares outside at them. Jake comes and wraps his arm around my waist as he stands by me.

"Break a lot of stuff?" Emmett asks and I can't help but roll my eyes and smile at his teasing.

"Emmett. No," Bella says which cause Edward to snicker and Jake to smile. The phone then starts ringing. It's probably Charlie. "Is that Charlie?"

"He's been calling twice a day," Edward answers her. I lean back into Jake, knowing my father isn't doing so well.

"He's in pretty rough shape," Jake says as he rubs my arm in comfort.

"Eventually, we'll have to tell him you didn't make it," Carlisle says.

"He needs to mourn, Bella," Edward adds.

"Okay. We'll do it tomorrow," Bella agrees and I sigh, knowing that they will have to leave.

"I'm gonna miss this place," Emmett says as he stands up.

"We'll come back. We always do," Carlisle says. I then walk out of the room not wanting to hear more.

(JAKE POV)

Anna just left the room when the Cullen's started talking about leaving.

"Wait. Nobody said anything about leaving," Seth says worriedly as he finally looks away from Renesmee.

"Once people believe Bella's dead, we can't risk anyone seeing her," Carlisle explains.

"So you just disappear?" I ask worriedly about Anna being able to leave her sister and niece. Seth also can't be without his imprint.

"Jacob, Seth, we don't have another choice," Edward says sadly. I decide to go pay Charlie a visit. I find Charlie in the woods, chopping firewood.

"Hey. You heard anything?" Charlie asks when he sees me. Anna and I had come to see him the day after Renesmee was born but had lied to him about Bella.

"Charlie, Bella is...Uh..." I say as I try to think of the best way to go about this.

"No, she's not," Charlie says. Oh no, that way made it sound as if she was dead.

"No, no, no, I mean, she's fine. She's back home and she's feeling better. Anna is with her," I tell him.

"Why didn't you say so? That's great," He says as he walks past me.

"Wait. There's something you need to see first," I tell him as I come up with a crazy idea of how to make the Cullen's stay.

"I need to see Bella and Anna," Charlie says.

"Look, in order for Bella to get better, she had to change," I tell him. This is a stupid move but oh well.

"What do you mean, 'change'?" Charlie asks me.

"Here goes nothing," I say as I take my jacket off.

"What the hell are you doing?" Charlie asks me.

"You don't live in the world you think you do," I tell him as I take my shirt off.
