The next morning we head to the battlefield. Bella and Edward stand with Renesmee between them. I stand beside Bella, not wanting phase unless I absolutely have to that way I can use my shield.
"If we live through this, I'll follow you anywhere, woman," Garrett tells Kate.
"Now you tell me," She says with a smile.
"The Redcoats are coming!The Redcoats are coming!" Garrett starts to chant when the Volturi walks out of the woods. There's at least 50 to 100 of them.
"Aro's looking for Alice and is confused by Anna," Edward says. The Volturi keep walking towards us before there is a howl behind us and the packs come out of the woods. The Volturi stop walking as Jake reaches my side and Seth reaches Edward's. Carlisle then walks in front of us.
"Aro, let us discuss things as we used to. In a civilized manner," Carlisle says.
"Fair words, Carlisle. But a little out of place, given the battalion you've assembled against us," Aro says.
"I can promise you, that was never my intent. No laws have been broken," Carlisle explains.
"We see the child. Do not treat us as fools," Caius says.
"She is not an immortal! These witnesses can attest to that. Or you can look. See the flush of human blood in her cheeks," Carlisle explains.
"Artifice!" Caius calls out. Aro raises his hand to silence him.
"I will collect every facet of the truth. But from someone more central to the story. Edward, as the child clings to your newborn mate, I assume you are involved," Aro says. Edward then walks over to Aro and Bella puts Renesmee between her and me. Bella tries to keep her shield on Edward but he gets too far away for her to be able to do it. Aro grabs Edward's hand so he can see Edward's thoughts and memories.
"I'd like to meet her," Aro says as he lets go of Edward's hand. Edward looks back at us. Bella and I each grab one of Renesmee's hands as we walk forward. Jake follows right behind me after he made Seth stay back. This makes Seth growl. We stop walking and Bella looks to Emmett and he joins us.
"Young Bella. Immortality becomes you," Aro says before he hears Renesmee's heart pounding. Aro starts laughing strangely. "I hear her strange heart." I see some of the other Volturi looking at me strangely. Renesmee then looks to Edward and Bella before walking forward to Aro. Seth starts to growl as he watches from afar.
"Hello, Aro," Renesmee says. Aro holds his hand out to her but she ignores it and puts hers to his face, using her power to share her story.
"Magnifico!" Aro says. "Half mortal, half immortal. Conceived and carried by this newborn while she was still human."
"Impossible!" Caius says.
"Do you think they fooled me, brother?" Aro asks him as he turns to him. We start walking back to our side and Jake growls at them before following.
"Bring the informer forward," Caius orders. Irina is brought forward. "Is that the child you saw?"
"I'm not sure," Irina answers.
"Jane," Caius orders.
"She's changed. This child is bigger," Irina says.
"Then your allegations were false," Caius says.
"The Cullens are innocent. I take full responsibility for my mistake," Irina says. Irina looks to Bella. "I'm sorry." Caius is handed a torch.
"Caius, no!" Edward yells. Irina's arms are ripped off before her head is as well. Caius sets her body on fire.
"Irina!" Kate yells as she and Tanya run forward. Emmett and Eleazar quickly grab Tanya while Garrett grabs Kate and suffers through her shocking him. Bella puts Renesmee on Seth's back.
"Blind them," Edward tells Zafrina.
"Give me my sight back," Tanya says once she and Kate are blinded.
"Tanya, this is what they want. If you attack now, we'll all die," Edward says and they both calm down. Zafrina gives them their sight back and Edward starts walking over to us.
"Pain," Jane says and Edward falls to the ground. I quickly shield the packs and Jake while Bella shields Edward, Renesmee, Seth, and everyone else.
"It's working," Edward says as he stands and walks over to us. Jane keeps trying to use her power but it doesn't work. Jane goes to walk forward but she is stopped. Alec then starts to let out his mist but Aro stops him.
"Aro, you see there's no law broken here," Carlisle says.
"What about the human that stands beside Bella?" Caius asks and Aro nods.
"Yes, Bella's sister," Aro says and Jake growls. I walk in front of everyone.
"I'm not fully human," I say before I phase and let out a growl. I back up to stand beside Bella again.
"As you see there's no laws broken here," Carlisle says.
"Agreed," Aro says. "But does it then follow that there is no danger? For the first time in our history, humans pose a threat to our kind. Their modern technology has given birth to weapons that could destroy us. Maintaining our secret has never been more imperative. In such perilous times, only the known is safe. Only the known is tolerable. And we know nothing of what this child will become. Can we live with such uncertainty? Spare ourselves a fight today, only to die tomorrow." Footsteps can then be heard coming out of the forest. Aro gasps.
