Sometimes Knowing Hurts

New Recruits

(ANNA POV)

As soon as we got out of the car Renesmee ran to Seth. Later that day more vampires arrived. We watch as Renesmee shows a male vampire named Benjamin, her story. Benjamin grabs her hand and closes it. When he opens it there is sand in her hand. He then twirls his finger which causes the sand to spin in like a tornado. I smile at his power and even see Jake smile. Seth smiles at Renesmee's happiness.

"Benjamin can influence the elements," Edward says.

"And here I get super self-control," Bella jokes. We then hear branches breaking, birds squawking, and other animals before two women vampires stop in the trees behind us.

"Who are they?" I ask.

"Senna and Zafrina. From the Amazon," Edward answers. Edward, Bella, Renesmee, and Seth then walk over to them. A patriot that Carlisle met in Yorktown on the battlefield was next to arrive. Then Carlisle's Irish friends arrived. Each being won over. Jake, Seth, and I each growing tenser as more and more vampires came. I knew that new pack members would be phasing soon. A few nomads also showed up. Majority of the vampires had red eyes making things complicated with their thirst for human blood.

"Lotta red eyes around here," Jake comments as he, Bella, Seth and I stand off to the side.

"They agreed not to hunt in the area," Bella says.

"But they'll feed somewhere," I tell her. Jake, Seth, and I go outside to keep a lookout for more vampires or even new shifter.

"Hey, easy there. Hey!" Jake orders after we watched a boy younger than Seth phase.

"It's all right. You're gonna be okay," I tell him. Jake nods to let me know that he has it. I head back to the house. Carlisle and Esme had just returned with the last witness.

"How many came?" Carlisle asks.

"Eighteen," I answer him.

"You have some good friends," Edward adds.

"And Alice?" Esme asks Bella. Bella shakes her head no before Esme pulls her into a hug.

"We'll all be on Aro's list now. Centuries on the run. That's what you've brought me. Some friend, Carlisle," Alistair says.

"Alistair, come meet everyone," Carlisle says.

"I already told you, if it comes to a fight, I won't stand against the Volturi," Alistair says.

"It won't come to a fight," Carlisle assures.

"I'll be in the attic," Alistair says before he jumps up to the attic.

"He's not a people person," Esme says before we head back inside. Many of the vampires have gifts of their own. Zafrina has power over the mind. She could make anyone see what she wanted them to. I watch as Zafrina uses her power on Edward.

"If she weren't holding my hand right now, I could swear this was real," Edward says and I read his mind to see that Zafrina is making him see a rainforest.

"I don't see anything," Bella says as she looks around.

"Edward, you didn't tell me your wife is a shield," Eleazar asks as he walks up.

"What's a shield?" Bella asks.

"The ones I've met are so different," Edward answers.

"It's a defensive talent," I explain.

"Your sister has a more advanced shield which is very interesting seeing as she is human and can also read minds," Eleazar says. Eleazar has the ability to detect powers.
