Castiel had been awake for hours. He was exhausted, yet every time he closed his eyes he saw flashes of a nightmare. Well, not a nightmare, a memory. A fist crashing closer to his face. Or a plate being smashed on the floor. A fight between Luci and his father, that left his brother bleeding on the floor. Or a vision of a blade, and an immense feeling of guilt.

So he just lay there, pretending to be asleep, wondering where his roommate was. Sam was often out late, but Castiel couldn't help the worry that surged in his head. He was incredibly thankful when he heard the faint click of the door.

Cas was confused when two sets off footsteps came in, and his confusion quickly turned to fear when he heard Gabriel's voice. Cas was sure his fears had been confirmed when he heard the rustle of clothes being taken off, and cold terror began seeping into his bones. He had suspicions about something between them for a while, everyone had, but now was his concrete proof. And he was going to have to sit through it.

He was pleasantly suprised when he, instead, heard his brothers familiar light snores and Sam's heavy breathing, he swung his legs over the end of the bed and smiled.

The two were curled up together, a mess of limbs-but a cute mess of limbs. Both of their faces were serenely oblivious to Cas pulling out his phone. It was a massive risk, but to capture this moment in all of its adorableness; Cas needed the flash turned on.

He felt his heart crash against his chest, he could be discovered, this could ruin everything, but, it was his duty. His duty to reveal the truth. His duty to show Dean how cute this relationship was. He carefully pulled up Snapchat, trying to move his fingers as steadily as possible. Now was the moment, he hesitated, letting his thumb hover over the button. With a deep breath, his thumb slammed down, the room being illuminated with a bright light as the image was captured.

The room fell into darkness again, and Castiel was frozen in fear; Sam seemed disturbed by the flash. The taller fidgeted slightly, before falling back into a placid state. Cas let out a sigh in relief, before creeping back to his own bed.

He smirked while captioning the photo ("Look who just came in.") and, after he saved it, he hit send.

Castiel turned his phone off and went to put it on the bedside table, assuming Dean wouldn't be awake, when it buzzed softly in his hand. Curiously, he brought the phone to his face again.

Dean W has taken a screenshot!

New Message from Dean W

Cas was suprised that Dean was still awake, but also very glad, he could do with talking to him. He unlocked his phone and went straight to his messages.

Dean had sent a picture of himself, clearly with the flash on. It wasn't a particularly interesting picture of him, it was what Dean probably classed as; "A mug," which was an unattractive photo. This puzzled Cas greatly because, it was scientifically impossible for there to be an unattractive photo of Dean. The photo itself was captioned: "I KNEW IT! Tho, if ur bro breaks Sam's heart, I will have to beat him up."

Cas smiled slightly, glancing quickly at the sleeping couple, before turning the flash on to take a similar. The photo was, indeed, what Dean would call, a mug, and he deleted it almost immediately. He took another photo, though this time, opted for a picture of just his eyes and forehead. Captioning it: "I would repeat the threat, but I'm not sure how I'd fair against Sam..."

It didn't take long for Dean to reply.
"I'm not sure if I should be reassuring and say you'd be fine because you're a badass, or tell you damn straight, you can't touch my brother."

*Damn bi, I think you mean. And we both know I am far from "a badass."

"Well aren't you funny with your sexuality jokes, though I can't tell if it was aimed at me or Sam. And nah Cas, I can sense a badass hidden underneath that reserved exterior."

Well my joke was actually aimed Sam, though I did assume his sexuality, I did not assume yours, I did not know you were bisexual Dean.
Also, I'm impressed, "reserved exterior," that's a lot of big words Dean.

"Oh shut up Cas, I make one mistake, and now you're acting like I'm a complete idiot"

Actually, it was far more than one mistake. It's a continued misuse of words, and a large use of... colourful vocabulary to cover it up.

"Fuck you, Cas."

Point proven

"Anyway, yeah I'm bi, I've known for a while but not... done anything about it. I mean, my dad's not the most accepting parent, so I never wanted to do anything in case he found out, but I'm glad Sam doesn't let Dad stop him. I just want him to be happy, y'know?"

Why were you scared, has your dad ever been... violent? Cas held his breath, begging the silence that Dean hadn't gone what he'd gone through. Suffered in the same way. After everything that's happened, Dean didn't deserve that. No one did, but least of all Dean. The reply came through with an ominous buzz.

"Well, I mean, once or twice, but that was a while ago and he was really drunk. I'm more scared of disappointing him."

I'm sorry
Castiel wasn't really sure of what else to say. This was important and emotional and heartbreaking, he wanted to reassure Dean that he's so brave, that he's such an amazing person, and although it's scary, he shouldn't let his father hold him back from being who he truly is. But, the words felt empty, almost hypocritical and overused as they swirled in the boy's mind. He had so many thoughts whirling in his mind, it was like a hurricane of emotion and words he wanted to say, but no matter how he tried, he couldn't say it. It was never what he really wanted to say, but he didn't know what he really wanted to say was, or how to say it.

"No it's cool, I'm sorry, this conversation suddenly got really deep and sad. I need to go to sleep anyway, and so do you. Night Cas."

Goodnight Dean

Cas didn't sleep much that night.
