Jasper
I almost didn't believe the words James just said to me.
He's been at it for weeks now and then he suddenly goes off with Parker on an expedition to find Bailey. I don't know what to think about it exactly.
Of course, I was extremely shocked.
On the other hand, I'm relieved to hear he is safe and now I can calm down. "Will you let me know when you've found her?" I ask after a while. He breathed in.
"I will."
"Promise?"
"I promise." He chuckled, "I'll call you." He said and then ended the call. Maybe I should tell his parents that he is safe, but I'm sure he would call them anyway.
Instead, I decided to go for a walk.
I need to clear my head because so much is going in my mind. A nearby park pops up in my head. That's where James and I met.
When I finally arrive, there was someone sitting on our swings. So I took the other one, which wasn't occupied.
The girl didn't glance my way once while I started swaying.
"Hey," I softly said.
"Hi." She replied without looking up.
"You okay?" I don't always go up to random strangers and ask them if they are okay, okay? Something inside me felt bad just seeing the girl like that.
"No."
"Do you- uh- wanna talk about it?" I ask as kindly as possible.
I don't want to force her into talking to me. And confessing all it to me. Only if she wants to, and it looks like she needs to.
"No."
Guess I can't always help and fix everything. Well, I try to. But that's the funny thing, no one realizes when you need help fixing.
"Yes." She said after a while.
I waited for her to go on. "It's stupid actually." We're making progress, she said more than one word.
"Don't feel stupid about it, I almost wanted to cry when my best friend didn't call me for two days." She giggled.
"I finally dumped my boyfriend." She said relieved, but also with some uncertainty. "He- I'm afraid of him." She made a sound and I pray that she won't start crying. I can't handle that.
"Are you afraid that he'll hurt you or are you afraid that made a mistake by leaving him?" She wiped under her eye.
"Both actually." Slowly she started crying. "I- I didn't want to find out that w-way. I- I thought he l-loved me." I started rubbing her back. "I was so stupid."
"He's an ass."
"No, I'm the ass. I should've noticed it. But I was too blind to see. H-he cheated on me with my best friend." Classic.
"Well, you deserve better than a cheating ass. Maybe a new friend too?" She smiled. Her tears were slowly starting to fade.
"I thought she was a good girl. But when they start to drink, they... I can't erase it from my head." She sniffed. "I thought she also had a boyfriend."
"Woah." It was weird hearing this because I'm not that type of guy. I don't like cheaters. I don't like dating. To say the truth everyone likes their freedom.
"But then she told me today that she hadn't seen him since their last party and that they aren't dating. So she shoved her tongue down my boyfriend- ex- boyfriend's throat and think it's okay."
"No, it's not. I'm really sorry."
"It's okay, thanks for listening."
"My pleasure. Now, what's the part about you being afraid of him?"
This was getting a little more juicer. Considering the fact that I don't have anything to do right now.
"As I've said, he drinks a lot. Especially at parties. We've been together since last year. They like to party together, because they are so carefree, unlike me. Sometimes." I nodded for her to continue.
"So when they were not sucking faces they were doing other things. The worst part is that they have been doing it for quite some time now. It made me furious. I felt... worthless."
"Hey, you should never feel that way. Believe me." I poked her sides making her laugh. "You are so special. There is a reason why you are here on this earth."
"Then I dumped his sorry butt."
"Yay for you," I said cheering, like holding an imaginary flag.
"But.." There's a but? Butt. Haha. "at the end he told me that he's gay and needs to me to not look suspicious. That's why he dated me."
"Plot twist, I did not see that ending coming."
"And the last words he said to me was- you won't leave me so easily."
"You shouldn't be afraid of some fake cheater's fake threats. And if anything, he'll first have to get through me." She burst out laughing. I didn't know I was that funny. So I just laughed with her.
We were getting a lot comfortable with each other as we talked. I told her all about myself and vice versa.
By the end of our conversation, I know all her friends and she knows mine. We were talking like we're old friends. I enjoyed every second of it.
We even talked about random stuff like food and sweets.
She told me about her sister and I told her about my two brothers. Everything about a gay ex-boyfriend was long forgotten by the time we try to catch our breath from all the laughing.
She was beautiful and had a dark stray of hair between all her light hair. I could see that it was natural, but it still looked unnatural. She really was a masterpiece.
"Is that-" I pointed to her hair.
"Oh yes, I was born like this. But I actually like my imperfection. I think it's cool, not many people have that."
"I totally agree, it looks sick! As in awesome. It's our imperfections that make us perfect, right?" She had the biggest grin ever.
"Yeah, just like your dimples."
"I'm Jasper by the way," I said randomly, remembering that I haven't told her my name once.
"Pepper." We shook hands.
So maybe I did know the future that time when James asked me who the special lady is. I even had her name right. Brownie points!
