We checked out of the room like I said, first thing in the morning.
Parker hid the puppy in my backpack and I was thankful for him remembering that it's a no-pet policy. He also stacked my backpack with snacks.
I gave him a weird look, but he only shrugged and said, "It's for the road." I couldn't argue with that, since my stomach was growling too.
Parker drove further and my mind kept on wondering. Is she safe? Does she have a house? Why would she go there? It's still unanswered questions dwelling in my head. It's irritating.
"You're thinking about her, aren't you?" I stayed silent. "Of course you are." He added. "She'll be okay."
"I hope so." I really really really do.
He shoved me, "Hey." I look at him, "cheer up. Have a little fun on this road trip." He sounds like Bailey. "We are on a special mission." I frown.
Just when I started looking out the window and thinking about her again, Parker spoke again. "Come in agent Brown." He pretended to talk into a walkie-talkie. "This is agent Adams, do you copy?" He glanced my way. "I repeat, do you copy Brown?"
I took his sunglasses that's on the dashboard. "I prefer Brown," I place them on. "James Brown." He started laughing. "I copy, over and out."
"It seems that the target is located about some miles away. Locked up in an icy cold storage unit. What is the plan?" I gave him a weird look. What is he talking about?
"Roger that. What is the status of the target?"
"It is said that it cures thirst, but I don't know for sure unless we continue with the mission."
"Affirmative. Hurry up, Adam Sandler."
We both laughed, but then I threw my fake walkie-talkie out of the car. "Why did you do that?"
"To destroy all evidence. But I'm still up for the thing that cures thirst though. How long will it be?" Then there was a sign of an engine stop.
Parker got out and bought bottles of water, which I was so thankful for. I took the bag full of snacks and started munching.
The puppy made a few sounds so I also gave him some chips. Parker tried mimicking the puppy but failed miserably. Key word being tried. Being the kind person I am, I still handed him a packet.
Soon enough we almost ate the entire stash. I was getting sleepy since the puppy was snoring. Parker didn't talk so I closed my eyes.
"Did you know how mesmerizing your blue eyes are when you watch a comedy? That's like the only time I saw you smile."
"What?"
"You heard me, you're so stunning right now that I want to kiss you."
"Really?"
"Yes, you're the most interesting and coolest person I've ever met. I loved that bad aura of you, and your bad ways. It's so tempting and I love that about you. You're like that last piece of cake everyone wants."
"And you're drunk, you won't remember a thing."
"I promise I won't ever forget this," I bent forward and place a peck on her lips.
What the duck?!
Was that a dream? Because it felt so duckling real! No, it can't be, I don't remember ever saying that to Bailey. Never mind kissing her. The only girl I've ever kissed is Carter.
But you could feel how real soft her lips are.
Shut up! Ugh! What a messed-up dream. I like Carter. And Bailey likes Parker. We would never go together. Because opposites don't attract.
Even though it was just a peck, it was the best kissed I've ever had. Yes, I've only kissed Carter, but still. Why does it keep bothering me? It shouldn't because it was just a dream. An illusion.
Yes, my mind playing tricks on me because of all this food.
I'm just having dreams of her because I'm constantly thinking of her. That explains everything. Now I can just chill and we'll soon be there.
Parker gave me a look, "Are you okay?" I nod. "Hey, don't give me the silent treatment."
"Am not, I just had a crazy dream."
"About?"
"I can't remember." I lie. "It was a nightmare, that's for sure." He just smiled. Thank gooseberry he didn't question anything further.
We had to make another few pitstops. Well, let's just say, don't feed a puppy junk food. Worst mistake of my life!
What goes in must come out, right?
Once the puppy started puking -and not just puking- I was totally covered in it. But to make things clear, I only barfed like two times. That's nothing compared to Parker. I lost count by five. He couldn't handle it.
Luckily we saw a house on the side of the road and I thought it would be best if we take a shower.
I knocked on the door and a lady opened it. Before I could greet her she pulls us all in. "I'll get the shower ready for you guys." I try to give Parker the puppy but he almost threw him.
"Keep that barfing thing away from me!" He squealed like a girl.
"Okay, everything is ready. I'll go to the store and buy you some new clothes." She takes the puppy. "Right after you get a bath."
"Thank you so much," I say.
She smiles, before giving us towels. "I'll be back in a few. You guys are welcome to stay the night."
"Oh, that's not necessary." Parker kindly decline.
"Nonsense, you boys look like you've traveled a long distance. All that driving and eating must've worn you out. Please, you won't be a bother."
I smile, "Thank you again, miss..."
"Oh just call me Simoné."
"I'm James, and that's Parker." She picked the puppy up and then walked away.
"So, you wanna shower first? Or-"
"Yes, please! That shower is calling me. I'm afraid that I'll have to scrub for days to get rid of that smell."
I laugh, "Okay, go ahead."
"Oh, and James, never ever feed Dog, junk food again. Promise me that."
I nod, "He won't be getting any anytime. Don't worry, I'll make sure of that." That's a promise I'm willing to keep.
Believe me, when I tell you this, I'm not naming the dog, Dog.
