Chapter 25: A plan gone wrong

The sound of the door being locked reverberated throughout the room.

Jian Chen put down An Lian and turned around. He quickly walked over to the door and tried turning the handle – but it was no use, it was tightly locked.

Jian Chen: "Agh, why didn't I bring my phone..."

Jian Chen exclaimed in frustration.

Jian Chen: "I'll find who did this to you An Lian."

An Lian could almost see the anger seething from Jian Chen, so he tried to calm him down.

An Lian: "Jian Chen, it's okay... this sort of thing is nothing. Maybe it was an accident?"

Jian Chen replied, "This was no accident An Lian, someone is deliberately trying to hurt you."

An Lian did not know how to respond, he didn't like seeing people angry and Jian Chen was starting to scare him. So An Lian backed away and sat down by the high jump mat again and tried to relax.

Jian Chen saw this movement and realised maybe he's scaring the other boy – who is probably already on edge.

Jian Chen walked over to the boy and sat down next to him.

Jian Chen: "An Lian, don't be afraid."

"Huh? Oh... I'm okay..." An Lian replied.

That's not very convincing...

Jian Chen thought as he saw the boy hugging his knees while slightly shaking on the ground.

Jian Chen got up and started looking around the room.

An Lian also looked up to see what he was doing.

"It's no use Jian Chen, I've already looked there's no way out."

But An Lian was surprised when Jian Chen came back with some kind of cloth tarp.

"If we're going to be stuck here for the night let's at least get comfortable." Jian Chen replied.

An Lian: "Oh."

An Lian watched as Jian Chen spread out the tarp on the high jump mat, "Come here An Lian."

An Lian could feel a slight blush spread over his cheeks.

Ah, why do I keep getting myself in situations where I have to sleep with him...

An Lian nervously got up and climbed up on the mat, crawling his way over to Jian Chen. He laid down and tried to get comfortable, grabbing the edge of the tarp to cover his body.

Chuckling under his breath, Jian Chen said in a soft voice, "Xiao Lian come closer, you'll freeze to death over there."

"I-I'm okay." An Lian replied his teeth slightly chattering already.

Jian Chen did not discuss the matter further and directly reached out and pulled An Lian to his chest.

Jian Chen's arms rested in a way so that one would conveniently provide An Lian with a pillow, and the other securely held around his waist pulling him closer.

An Lian certainly wasn't feeling cold anymore – in fact, his whole body seemed to be burning up with embarrassment!

How am I going to sleep like this!?

Coincidently, Jian Chen was thinking the same thing...

It took all of his will power not to advance on the boy snuggled in his arms.

Surprisingly, the two did manage to fall asleep in each other's arms.

Meanwhile...

"Did you lock him in?"

"Yes, I also made sure no one would pass by... well except..."

"Except!?"

"You see, t-there was one other guy that came by and unlocked the door – probably no one important... so I locked him in too. It looked like he was looking for the boy, so I didn't want him to go get help..."

"Another guy... YOU IDIOT!!! THAT WAS DEFINITELY JIAN CHEN!"

"Jian... Chen?"

"Oh my god, it's too late to let them out now... he might discover you."

"It's not like anything will happen between them..."

"Right. They're just two boys, what could happen? Just make sure to unlock the door early in the morning so no one will see you."

When An Lian woke up, he was still being tightly cuddled by Jian Chen.

An Lian must admit – it was quite comfortable and warm.

An Lian slowly turned around inch by inch to face Jian Chen who was still sleeping peacefully. He observed his face which was slightly frowning.

Hehe, even in your sleep you look unapproachable and grumpy.

Wow, Jian Chen really is handsome... unlike me, he has strong features and a sharp jawline, while I can be compared to dough... No wonder he's popular with girls...

An Lian was staring for a while deep in thought, he almost didn't notice Jian Chen open his eyes.

When An Lian did notice, he held eye contact for only a few seconds before lowering his gaze shyly.

"Did you sleep okay?" Jian Chen asked.

"Ah." An Lian replied softly before pulling away from Jian Chen – he was after all, still lying in his arms in close proximity.

But Jian Chen refused to let go of his waist and held on tightly.

"J-Jian Chen let go ah. What if someone comes in..."

I'll definitely die ah... An Lian thought.

"I'll have to dispose of them."

!!!

"That's not funny Jian Chen!" An Lian yelled back embarrassed.

"Haha, An Lian, I don't think I've seen you angry before? Will you show me more often?" Jian Chen teased.

An Lian took this moment to push away from Jian Chen and escape from his hold.

But An Lian had not calculated the distance from Jian Chen and the end of the mat well enough...

"An Lian, be careful!" Jian Chen shouted as he jumped out to catch An Lian who was falling backwards off the mat.

An Lian was waiting for his head to hit the floor but the impact never came. Instead he felt a warm hand supporting his head as he lay with his legs propped up on the mat.

Jian Chen had caught An Lian just in time, his hands supported his head and lower back as he lay somewhat crouched on top of An Lian, both dangling off the mat.

Nobody said anything and Jian Chen just smiled as he helped the flustered An Lian up.

An Lian hastily walked to the door and astonishingly found it unlocked!

When the two returned to the dorm in the early hours of the morning they had a lot of explaining to do to a furious Yu Ming. Jian Chen just said that they slept over at his house again...
