Chapter 45: A Mother's instinct

The first week back seemed to rush by with lectures and work keeping An Lian extremely busy.

Before he knew it, it was Friday afternoon. He was meant to go with Jian Chen to his house today... Nervous probably wasn't sufficient to describe An Lian's state.

Fiddling around with his laptop, An Lian casually spoke to Yu Ming who was sitting at his desk.

An Lian: "So...Um... This weekend, I'll be staying over at Jian Chen's house."

Yu Ming thought he heard wrong, "Huh? What was that, Xiao Lian?"

An Lian fidgeted nervously, "Well... it's more convenient for my job... that way I have less distance to travel, and Jian Chen will drive me... I'll also help him clean the house and-"

Yu Ming cut him off, "An Lian! It's not safe! Stay here with me. I really don't trust that man..."

An Lian: "Ah... He's really not that bad..."

Yu Ming was in anguish, he had a really bad feeling about this. Why would An Lian suddenly want to stay with Jian Chen? There was definitely something going on...

Yu Ming: "An Lian... is there something... between you two?"

An Lian got flustered and quickly denied all charges.

An Lian: "Haha... Aren't we just the same as before..."

"That's right, Xiao Lian has been my wife since the beginning."

An Lian's face froze and heart stopped, he turned his head and looked at Jian Chen who was standing in the doorway. An Lian's mouth hung open slightly in disbelief.

Jian Chen!!!

An Lian: "Ah... heh... that's very funny Jian Chen..."

But Yu Ming and Jian Chen could not hear the boy as they exchanged threatening glares.

Jian Chen smiled evilly and walked over to An Lian, sneaking an arm around the boy's waist to pull him closer.

Yu Ming got up and aggressively walked towards the two. Once in range, he took An Lian's hand, "Xiao Lian come over to me, you're not allowed to be around Jian Chen anymore."

An Lian: "B-but..."

An Lian felt at loss staring at Yu Ming's wronged expression. He looked up at Jian Chen with a pleading face. Jian Chen almost melted on the spot watching An Lian pout.

Jian Chen: "Xiao Lian, who do you pick?"

An Lian: "Ah?"

An Lian was alarmed at the sudden situation; Who do I pick? I'm not going to betray my friendship with Yu Ming! B-but... Jian Chen...

"Um, have I walked into a TV drama..."

Yu Ming: "Xi Jun!"

Xi Jun jumped back in alarm. When he casually entered the room a few moments ago, Jian Chen had an arm around An Lian - whose hand was being held by Yu Ming. It looked like the two were fighting over the boy. Very ambiguous....

Jian Chen let out a breath of air and hoisted An Lian over his shoulder. Walking past Xi Jun, he winked and left the room.

Xi Jun stood unmoving in the doorway, slightly squinting his eyes and opening his mouth as to say something before quickly closing it again.

Yu Ming: "Ah! He's getting away!"

Xi Jun came fully into the room and sat down on a chair carefully, "Getting away?"

Yu Ming sat down and faceplanted onto the desk, "Don't you see, my little An Lian has been snatched up!"

Xi Jun: "Snatched... up?

Yu Ming: "That bastard! Jian Chen! If that man hurts An Lian, I'll cut off his manhood and dice it into a thousand small pieces to feed to the fish!"

Xi Jun slowly got up and backed out of the room.

Yu Ming: "Hey! Where do you think you're going!"

Xi Jun nervously covered his crotch with his hands, "J-just, to the bathroom."

Yu Ming: "Xi Jun! Don't you understand what is happening!"

Xi Jun: "Isn't their situation the same as ours..."

An Lian: "Jian Chen! Put me down!"

Once a few paces from the dorm, Jian Chen put An Lian back down. The boy's face was bright red and he looked ready to attack someone.

Jian Chen: "Well, now that we've told him, we can go to my place."

An Lian: "You're not allowed to be mean to Yu Ming. He's my friend... he means well."

Jian Chen sighed, "I know. Don't worry, I think he has someone to calm him down."

An Lian: "Huh? Who's that?"

Jian Chen laughed under his breath; You're still very dense...

Jian Chen: "Don't worry about that right now."

An Lian looked at Jian Chen suspiciously but did not enquire further. The two hastily made their way down the stairs and to Jian Chen's car.

Jian Chen turned on the heater and made sure An Lian was buckled up before setting off. The journey was quiet as neither party spoke. After only a short while, they had arrived.

The nervousness that An Lian had forgotten about resurfaced. He couldn't help fidgeting in his seat while wondering what was going to happen to him in these next two days. He knows Jian Chen has been holding back for a long time...

The two exited the car and walked to the entrance. Jian Chen scrambled around for the keys for a while before unlocking the door. The house was somewhat gloomy and cold as no one lived there frequently enough to make it homey.

Jian Chen turned on the lights and heaters after taking off his jacket. The first stop was the kitchen. It had been a long day and Jian Chen had the feeling An Lian would be hungry. So, he had prepared to cook a small feast, to commemorate the start of their relationship.

An Lian sat slightly awkwardly at the dining table waiting for Jian Chen. After only a few minutes, he couldn't take it anymore and went to the kitchen.

An Lian: "Is there something I can do? I learnt to cook when I was young."

Seeing An Lian wanting to help, Jian Chen assigned him with some jobs. He knew the boy was competent in cooking. After all, he had cooked for his family for many years.

Speaking of which...

An Lian: "Actually... I haven't heard from my aunt in a while... Did you talk to her on the phone?"

Jian Chen smirked with his back to An Lian, "I went there directly."

An Lian: "Huh? You went to them?"

Jian Chen: "Ah. I told them they would not have to worry about you anymore. You are in capable hands. And regarding the money you owe them... they graciously said you would not have to pay them back."

An Lian was sceptical, "Jian Chen... what exactly did you do?"

Jian Chen turned around and walked over to An Lian's side and gave him a peck on the cheek, "Nothing much."
