Alec bolted upright in bed, taking him a moment to realize where he was. His eyes greeted the sight of cream-colored walls and a tabby cat resting underneath a chair; soft snoring from the living room sang like melody in his ears.
Seeing Magnus's angelic face resting and peaceful made Alec relax a little and think how young he looked like-so carefree and vulnerable. His stance wasn't guarded nor was his expression, but it was blithe and relaxed. For a moment Alec thought there weren't any secrets between them, forgot about that silly argument they had, and that their breakup was just some impractical joke but as his mind wandered over to the dream, he suddenly felt cold all over.
What had the demon said?
Unless his attention is diverted elsewhere.
Alec shook his head, knowing it was just a stupid dream.
Besides, he refused to believe the fact that Magnus is cheating on him. Magnus was many things, but a cheater? That's not him.
Feeling as if a bucketful of ice has been shoved down his shirt, Alec got up and decided to make tea.
Tea always manages to soothe his nerves. Magnus knew this too because his cupboard was stacked with them. But then again that was back when they were dating; he was actually surprised that his former boyfriend hadn't thrown them out yet.
Reaching into a drawer and pulling out a teacup, his mind went over the past day's events.
The rejected phone calls and ignored texts to Magnus, catching his little sister and a vampire making out on a tree, that damn creature who almost ended his life, and finally, Magnus healing him back to normal and telling him that they should talk.
Alec gulped down the uneasy feeling in his throat.
That doesn't sound so good.
What else do they still have to talk about?
Just another way to add more salt to the wounded knee?
No thank you.
Or perhaps, a decent explanation on why they really broke up.
Don't you think it's a little unreasonable for him to dump you just like that? If Magnus truly loved you, he would have forgiven your silly little actions.
He shut his eyes, willing the voice to go away.
"Alec, are you alright?" a voice said, startling him. The teacup he was gripping tightly flew to the ground where it crashed into a million pieces.
In an instant Magnus sat upright on the couch, face etched in concern.
"What's wrong?" asked Magnus worriedly. "Did something happen?"
"N-nothing," Alec stammered. "I'm perfectly fine."
He bent down to pick up the fallen porcelain cup; the sharp edges cutting through his palm when a hand touched his lightly. Surprised, Alec looked up to see Magnus crouching beside him.
Under the faint luminescence shining from the window, Magnus's face was almost angelic. His expression was soft and sweet; lips slightly parted as he breathed, the cold atmosphere creating chilly frosts. The light touching his dark hair almost looked silver, sticking out in tufts of feathers. His luminous gold-green eyes gleamed with a hint of mischief.
"Let me take care of it." Magnus snapped his fingers and the pieces vanished in thin air. He took a sharp-edged glass from Alec's hand, the latter not realizing he had been gripping it so tightly blood ran down his arm.
