.Chapter 15.
"So what am I supposed to do now?" I asked my 'mentors' as I stepped out of the car. We had arrived at school where phase 2 would be carried out. "Just be your normal self," they replied.
As I walked, I realised I didn't quite like this airy feeling I was well, feeling, because of the skirt. Sure, I was wearing safety shorts underneath but it still made me feel so exposed and uncomfortable.
Walking down the hallway, I received a lot of stares and some people even came up to me and complimented me. This was both strange and new to me, so I hugged my books tighter and occasionally bit my lip.
"Woah, girl, calm down. Relax, you just need to be normal for this part of the plan," Eva said, placing a hand on my shoulder.
"Okay now, I need you to continue walking straight and then make a right turn in about a few metres," Amber whispered into my ear.
I was completely and utterly confused. How many metres is 'a few metres'?
"And... now!" she ordered. Oh my god. This was way too sudden. I almost stumbled when she suddenly jerked me to the right. "Yes! Phase 2 checked, homeboy couldn't keep his eyes off of you. You're killing it Madds, I'm so proud of you," Amber laughed, high-fiving Eva and Emilia.
"Okay, now what?"
"Now, we go to class. 'Cause the bell is about to go off any time now." And on cue, the bell rang. Before heading off, Emilia added, "We'll discuss phase 3 during lunch later. Toodles!" And then she ran off.
I could hear footsteps coming from behind me. Someone was approaching me. I pretended to be texting someone on my phone and angled it in a way that I could see who was coming towards me. Carter. Knew it.
Ha. Ha. If he thinks he can just come up to me and be all normal, talk and stuff like nothing happened, he's wrong. I'm pissed and I have every right to be. So, I sped up my pace and rushed into class 143. It was history lesson. I pondered, '3 hours of sleep isn't going to last me through History.'
Then he walked into the classroom. Shoot, I forgot that he was in the same history class as me. With my head lowered towards the worksheet on my desk, I watched from the corner of my eyes as he took a seat at the desk right behind me.
As I sat up, I could feel his gaze burning holes through the back of my head.
Just keep your cool, don't think about it.
Nevertheless, I chose to ignore it and tried to keep myself awake as Mrs Petes started the lesson.

Next was English, which I also had with him. That was it. I was pretty convinced the universe had something against me. And then there's that singing thing coming up on Thursday. Time to come up with a shitty excuse for Mr Bob I guess, because there's no way I'm going to sing a duet with him.
This time he sat right next to me, and in my peripheral vision I always caught him looking at me. Never did I once turn my head to look back at him.
After class, he called out, "Maddelyn, could we talk?"
He called me by my full name. Interesting...
I pretended I didn't hear him and continued on my way to class. I titled my head to the side to catch a glimpse of what he was going to do. I guessed he was about to call out my name again but before he did, I texted him,
Don't make a scene here.
That caused him to shut his mouth instantly. He just left the message on read and that was the last thing that happened between us that day.
