The Pollywog

Jessica knew that having three dreams, more than once was not good. Jonathan has been telling her about Will, having episodes of the upside down. But there was no way in hell that could be happening to her. Right?

Steve looked down at the floor in complete awe over the sleeping Jessica Evans, looking peaceful and beautiful as ever.

"Jess wake up, we're going to be late for school." Steve said kneeling on the ground trying to wake his friend

"Five more minutes." She murmured

"Jess wake up we're going to be late." He whispered

"What I'm up." She said sitting up "shit."

"What?" Steve asked

"My parents never knew I slept here they'll kill me." Jessica said

"Your house is right next door Jess calm down." Steve laughed "just climb up the tree into your room like I always do."

"My window is shut idiot." Jessica smiled

"Here." Steve said "climb up the tree, I'll go over and say I'm giving you a ride."

"Thanks." She laughed

Jessica ran over to her house and climbed the tree to her room as Steve tried to get inside.

"She's up in her room if you want to go get her, she hasn't been answering for breakfast." Tracey said

"Okay thank you." Steve said walking inside

Steve ran upstairs into Jessica's room and opened her window.

"Thanks." She said crawling into her room "now if you don't mind can you leave my room so I can get changed."

"What you think I'm a perv?" He laughed "I'm going, I'm going."

Jessica grabbed more decent clothes to change into then went downstairs with Steve.

"Bye Mom. Bye Dad." Jessica said trying to get out the door as quick as possible

"Not so fast kiddo." Her dad said

"Yeah?" She asked

"How was last night?" Tracey asked

"Good." Jessica said looking over at Steve worried "can I go now?"

"Why didn't you answer us as we called for you?" Her mom asked

"Yeah Jess, why didn't you answer?" Daniel mischievously smirked

"I was in my closet I couldn't hear you, and Daniel I can't give you a ride bye." Jessica said walking out the door with Steve

"That was close." She laughed getting into the car

"Tell me about it." Steve laughed

👻

"Hey I have practice today." Steve said shutting his locker

"Yeah I know." Jessica laughed following her friend "I want to watch you."

"Okay." Steve smiled "is this a way for you to see me all sweaty."

"You're discussing!" Jessica squealed hitting Steve's arm

"I'm sorry! I had an opportunity so I took it." He laughed

"I'm surprised how I've managed being friends with you for so long." Jessica mumbled as the two parted their ways

"I heard that!" Steve yelled

"Don't care!" Jessica laughed walking into the gym

👻

Watching basketball practice used to be a thing Jessica did almost every day during the season, until around Sophomore year as the two became emu- distant from each other. The sound of whistles blowing, shoes squeaking, and people cheering; the sounds both Jessica, and Steve missed dearly. Steve dribbled the ball, boxing off Billy.

"Harrington right? Heard you used to run this school. King Steve they used to call you huh? Then you turned bitch." Billy said

"Maybe you should just shut up and play the game." Steve said

Billy shoved Steve and started running with the ball and Steve was on the ground. Jessica sitting on the bleachers in shock. Steve got back up as Billy shot a basket.

"Steve?" Nancy asked entering the gym

Both Steve, and Jessica stared at her in shock, the practice stopping for Steve.

Steve walked out of the gym outside with Nancy, then soon came back in looking pissed and disappointed.

"Great job everyone today!" The coach said

Jessica waited for Steve as he showered in the locker room.

"Thanks for giving me a ride." Jessica laughed

"Yeah no problem." Steve said

"So What did Nancy want?" Jessica asked

"She doesn't remember anything..." Steve said "and she, she really doesn't love me."

"Oh Steve." Jessica said

"I'm fine though." He said "everything's fine."

"You sure?" She asked

"Positive." He chuckled dropping his friend off at her house

"Tomorrow you're comming over to study right?" Jessica asked

"Yeah."

"And you can actually come through the door this time."

"Okay thanks bitch." Steve joked

"No problem ass hole." She smiled shutting the door walking to her house

The dark empty rooms in her house, filled with vines, particles that made it hard to breathe, and eerie noises. Jessica, racing through the halls trying to find some sort of protection, and as she stopped to catch her breath; a dark grey ground fog followed her, and somehow as she opened her closet door; she was at the middle school school yard, and there was Will inhaling the cloud of fog.

"Will! Will!" Jessica yelled chasing after the boy"Will!"

As she stood next to the boy shaking him awake, he disappeared; and so did everything else from the upside down.
