The train ride was a difficult one. Due to my swollen eyes and the tears which I was trying hard not to let go, I could barely see the signs for the next stop. I swallowed the lump in my throat and tried to hide myself as much as I could, because the last thing I wanted was for people to see a college boy like me crying in public.
Harry had called earlier, as usual, but I couldn't answer his call. I wanted to hear his voice so badly, knowing it was the only thing so far that could calm me down.
I really needed to calm down.
She'll be fine.
"Hello, is this seat taken?" An elderly woman politely asked me and I smiled weakly at her before scooting away, allowing her to sit down. She thanked me with a sweet smile.
"What's wrong, child?" She whispered to me, eyebrows raised. "Are you alright?"
I quickly nodded my head, slightly embarrassed. "Yeah, I'm... I'm okay."
"You don't have to be ashamed of crying, little one," Her hand gently patted my knee. "My grandson would sometimes cry too, and he would always come to me."
"Whatever it is that's making you sad, love, know that it happens for a reason. I'm sure everything will be alright. I'll pray for you, yeah?"
When I finally let our eyes meet, I noticed her cross necklace around her neck. My heart warmed a little, but still it didn't stop it from aching.
"Thank you." I croaked.
She smiled wider.
"Well, this is my stop. May God bless you, little one." The woman said before going off the train. I suddenly felt all alone again.
My phone rang again, and Harry's name flashed on the screen. A tear fell from my eye before I swiped the answer button.
"Harry..." I whimpered.
"Lou? What's wrong? Are you crying?"
I sobbed, not caring about the eyes focusing on me.
"Breathe, Lou."
But I couldn't. I kept crying and my chest was hurting more and more. I needed to see my mother now.
Now, now, now.
"It's my mum," I choked. "She's -"
"Louis," Harry's voice told me he was getting worried and maybe a little bit afraid. "Lou, stay strong. Breathe. Calm down."
"Okay, okay..." I gulped.
"Where are you now?"
"I'm," I hiccuped. "I'm in... the train. I'm going over."
"Alright, alright. Don't think too much, boo. She's fine, she'll be fine."
Why did it felt like he was lying?
"Haz..." I cried harder.
He continued to talk me out until I've arrived my destination. Without a second thought, I hung up and dashed to the nearest exit and started to look for a taxi. The cars were all over the place, so it was difficult to get a taxi.
I cursed loudly.
I searched for the address of the hospital Lottie sent me and I thanked God that it wasn't that far.
So I ran as fast as I could, bumping and pushing people away during the run.
Lottie was at the entrance when I saw her. I continued to run and pant until I was out of breath. My sister caught me before I could fall flat to the ground.
"Lottie," I sobbed. "Lots."
"I'm glad you're here, Lou." She tried to smile, but her tears wouldn't stop falling. I pulled her into a hug and we both cried in each other's arms.
