Art Class

I looked at the time on my phone. I closed the book I was reading, and set it aside. I sighed, feeling the tiredness crawl back inside me. I grabbed my stuff and headed out of my bedroom, into the living room.

I waited for my friends, Anahi and Nairi, to join me. I waited on the couch. Eventually, they came out of their rooms and headed toward the kitchen for breakfast. I slung my backpack straps onto one of the chairs in the kitchen. I looked out the window of our dorm and saw the wind blowing past the trees, as the sun shone behind them. I knew it was going to be nice weather outside. I grabbed a banana out of the pantry and sat down.

I usually ate small things for breakfast, a banana, yogurt, applesauce, something like that. It would hurt my stomach if I ate so much in the morning.

The other two had cereal. They didn't really question why I had almost nothing for breakfast each morning. I told them once, but I think they forgot. Maybe.

"Did you guys have any dreams or anything?", I said to them, trying to break the silence between us.

I had a dream last night. It was just me, in a dark room, sitting in a chair, waiting for something. Nothing happened in the dream, so I didn't really bring it up.

"No.", Nairi responded.

Anahi shook her head.

"Are you guys excited for education?", I asked jokingly.

Anahi looked up at me, an eyebrow raised.

"Sure...", She said sarcastically.

I stood up, going to the trash can to throw away the peel of my banana. Sometimes it got a little silent in the dorm. I always tried to make conversation when I got uncomfortable with the silence. It wasn't much better in our classes. Of course, we would have to be quiet during class, but I find silence unbearable.

"We should get going.", I said after a minute, because we had all finished our food.

Nairi was the first one to stand up. I stood up after her, grabbing my backpack, and walking out of the kitchen. Anahi was the last one to stand up. She seemed really tired. She probably stayed up last night, playing on her phone.

I walked out the door, making sure I had everything. I looked over my shoulder, and stopped, letting the other two catch up. As I wasn't looking, I was ambushed by my best friend, Kaylee.

I jumped a small bit, letting out a small gurgling noise from my throat. I turned around, with a look of shock plastered on my face.  Kaylee laughed a little bit. She loved to scare me. I rolled my eyes, my face turning a bit red from embarrassment.

My two other friends, Lucy and Sam, walked up to us. Lucy had her hands in her pockets, and Sam was beaming with her usual energy.

Sam looked in our direction and waved, "Hey!", She chirped.

Kaylee walked over to them and put her arm on Sam's shoulder. She led them to us.

I smiled. My friends were crazy, but they were the best friends anyone could ever have. We all had things that were drastically different, yet we also had things that were the same. Our differences and similarities were like magnets. We all became a group of friends during middle school.

I looked at the time on my phone once again. I saw my string wrapped around my ring finger. It glowed a calming maroon. I liked to look at it every now and then, just to remind myself that someone out there was the one for me.

"Guys, we should head to class.", I said.

A few of us nodded. Some of us had the same class together for first period. Art class. I began to walk toward the building, as the others walked around me.  We all started talking to eachother as we opened the doors, and started walking down the hallway. We were just a huge group of friends walking around, sticking together like a pack of wolves.

We eventually had to split apart, for our separate classes. Surprisingly, there was only one art room, so whoever signed up to be in the art class would be in the same class together. I had the class with Kaylee, Anahi, Nairi, and Lucy. We all loved to draw, and all of us were pretty good. I opened the door to the art room. I only knew a few people in the class, but I didn't really talk to them much. I tried to talk to others, but I just wanted to stick with my friends. They didn't really seem energetic, or happy. Of course, some of them were, though.

Kaylee jogged to our favorite table, which was by the window. The window stared out at trees and bushes filled with flowers. Currently, it was April, so the leaves and flowers were coming back. We all had small drawing tablets in front of us. Of course, the students had to pay for them. We all opened up Adobe Photoshop, and started to draw what we were assigned earlier in the week, self portraits.
