My Plan

I walked down the hall, back to my own dorm. I walked in the door and heard water running in the bathroom, Anahi was taking a shower.

I sat down on the couch and turned on the TV. I went through the channels and turned on a random show. I watched the show for a little while until I heard the water in the bathroom shut off.

What would Anahi say to me? I haven't seen her since I left. Would she tease me somehow?

Anahi walked out of the bathroom a few minutes later, her purple dyed hair dripping from the split ends.

"Hey. Where have you been?", She asked.

"Nowhere..."

"Come on, you can tell me."

"I went to Olive Garden with Lukas, and then we went to a scenic cliff..."

"Did anything... happen?"

"No."

"I know something happened."

"Fine, he kissed me. There. Nothing else happened."

"There's the truth."

"I'm gonna go to bed...", I stood up.

I walked to my room and fell onto my bed. I closed my eyes and sighed heavily. I positioned myself so my head was on my pillow, and I tried to fall asleep.

After a while, I did end up falling asleep. I had a dream.

Lukas and I sat near Lake Shafer, in Indiana. Kaylee and I had gone there before, the Summer of fifth grade. We were sitting on one of the docks, staring at the sunset.

"I love you.", I whispered.

"I love you too.", He agreed happily.

We sat there, in a few minutes of silence. I eventually touched his cheek gently with my fingertips and turned his head toward mine. Our faces got close together.

The dock shuddered, and broke. We fell into the water and sunk like weights.

I opened my eyes and gasped. I was still in my room, as dark as ever. I've never had a dream like that before. It made no sense whatsoever. I looked at my clock and saw that the time was 3:53 A.M, I wouldn't be able to go back to sleep, not after that dream. I stood up and went out of my room. I went toward the living room. I exhaled sharply as I sat down. I wrapped my arms tightly around myself. I laid there, in the darkness, until I heard a loud knocking on the door. I walked toward the door. Who would be here so late at night?

I opened the door slowly and saw Lukas. Of course. I stood at the doorway, waiting for him to say something.

"I'm sorry.", He said.

"I don't see why you should be sorry. I'm sorry that I didn't listen to you. I shouldn't be a sissy like that...", I laughed.

He sighed with relief.

"Wait... Why are you here at 4:00 AM?", I asked him.

"I just came back from the cliff. I kind of got lost in thought."

"Oh, alright. Come in."

He came in and walked toward the couch.

"So, what did you mean by, 'I shouldn't be a sissy like that'?", He asked after a few seconds of silence.

"I shouldn't have walked away like that. I should've... Stayed. We could've talked more, just, something."

He smiled at me. He placed his hand on mine.

"Can I get you anything? Water? An Apple?"

"I'm good.", He laughed a little.

"You can turn on the TV, or, do you just want to talk?"

"Both, I guess. It gets a bit awkward when you're just talking in silence."

"Yeah...", I handed him the remote, "Turn on whatever, I don't care."

He nodded and turned on a random channel.

"What even is there to talk about?", He said.

"Who knows anymore. I mean, I had a weird dream that lasted like, 20 seconds."

"What was it?"

"We were sitting near a lake in Indiana, a place where Kaylee and I went in middle school. It was sunset, and, we were talking... And the dock we were sitting on broke, and we sank into the lake like weights, and I woke up.

"The dock broke cause I had too many donuts that morning."

I nudged him, laughing.

Lukas, he was just perfect. His personality, humorous, kind, calm, and much more. His looks, dirty-blonde hair, hazel eyes. Perfect in every way.

Me, Amanda, I'm okay. My personality, humorous, caring, serious yet energetic at the same time. My looks, brown hair, brown eyes.

We fit together perfectly. I don't know why I didn't see it before.

After the laughter died down, we just sat there, only the noise of the TV filling the room. I looked down at the floor. My heart already felt so tired from all of the emotions.

I turned and placed my hand on top of his. He turned towards me. I stared into his eyes for a second and moved my face in close to his. I kissed his cheek and moved away.

"I think you should go. We both need to sleep."

"Yeah, I guess so."

He let go of my hand and stood up. I stood up after him and jogged in front of him to open the door.

I opened it, and he waved. I smiled and closed the door.

My heart felt heavy. An idea popped into my head, and I decided to go with it.

I wanted to get away for a little while, process everything that's happened in the past few hours. Everything that happened seems like it went by too fast.

I went to the kitchen counter and grabbed a piece of paper from the notepad in one of the drawers. I took out a pencil and began to write.

'I want to get away for a little while. It's no one's fault, I just need to process. It sounds stupid, I know... Just, turn in my assignments, and if you can, get my assignments from my teachers, and put them on my bed. -Amanda'

I went to my room, and grabbed my stuff. I grabbed my assignments too. I set them on the counter. All of my stuff was packed into one single back. Just the essentials, clothing, brush, toothbrush, toothpaste, wallet, etc.

I walked out the door.
