The Pancake House

Since there were 6 of us, we didn't want to be crowded in one car, so we split up. I was in a car with Lukas and Kaylee, and the other car had Anahi, Nairi, and Sam. We were in Lukas's car, so he drove, and Kaylee rode in the passenger's seat. They had music playing. It was really loud. I heard small whispers, but couldn't make out what they were saying. I sat alone in the spacious back. I held my chin up with my palm, staring out the window at the roads and cars' license plates.

The song eventually became deafening-- literally-- as the person singing did a high note. I covered my ears, getting furious as I heard the whispers still going on. What did they not want me to know?

"Why is the music so damn loud? What can you possibly be hiding from me?", I yelled.

I got no response. They weren't paying attention to me. I fumed, but stayed quiet, gripping the rim of my shorts to keep from yelling out.

We were getting closer to the pancake house. Eventually, I got so angry, that my eyes started to water. I was crying. I grabbed the hem of my shirt and rubbed my eyes.

What was so important and secretive that I couldn't know what it was? What, was Lukas on his period or something?

We pulled into the parking lot. I saw the other three standing by the entrance. As soon as the car stopped, I jumped out. I walked over to the others.

"How was the ride?", Anahi asked.

"The music made me deaf, it was so loud. Kaylee and Lukas were whispering the whole time. I'm really angry right now. I stayed silent the whole time.", I murmured.

"What if they love each other, and just don't want to tell you, so they say lovey and emotional stuff while you're not paying attention, or when the music is blasting.", Anahi said, smirking.

I didn't think it was funny.

"I asked them why the music was so loud, and why they wouldn't tell me what they were talking about. No response.", I responded, crossing my arms.

"They're still in the car.", Nairi said, a little worry creeping into her voice.

"They better not be making out.", Sam groaned.

I stormed over to the car.

"Get out! We're gonna get pancakes without you two!", I yelled through the window.

I walked back to the others.

"Let's go in without them."

I walked inside, the others going in with me.

A lady was at a counter as we walked in.

"Table for 6 please.", I said slowly.

She led us to a booth. I sat down in the seat next to the window. Nairi sat next to me, followed by Sam, and Anahi sat across from me.

Kaylee and Lukas eventually walked in, and I saw something that made me want to scream. Lukas held up a two sign with his hands, as I saw him mouth the word "two".

Anahi saw what I was looking at, and a scowl plastered on her face.

"There is something going on with those two.", She muttered under her breath.

I nodded. The two of them were led to a table right behind Anahi. She turned around in her seat.

Oh god.

"Hey, you two, what the hell are you doing!?", She whisper-yelled to them.

Lukas and Kaylee sat right next to each other, not across from each other. Lukas turned his head and glared at Anahi. His face was placid and cold. My eyes widened, and I scooted back in my seat. I had never seen him like this.

"What the hell...", Nairi whispered.

"I know...", I responded.

Anahi turned around, and plopped back down in her seat, and knit her eyebrows in thought.

"His expression makes me uneasy, guys...", Anahi mumbled to us.

I nodded.

"He's never been like this.", I looked down at the table.

Nairi put her hand on my shoulder.

"If those two are doing anything serious, we'll handle this, and kick their butts, got it?", She said seriously.

I nodded, still looking down.

I then saw something out of the corner of my eye. A person that seemed to look so familiar.

"Guys, who is that?"

A dark-skinned male, muscular.

"Harold?", Anahi whispered in amazement, "Harold!", She yelled.

"Anahi?"

His voice had gotten deeper. I kept a smile plastered on my face. I saw occasional glances coming from Kaylee and Lukas, but they didn't do or say anything.

Harold sat down in the booth, next to Anahi.

"So, how's it been, guys?", Harold asked, twiddling his thumbs.

"Lukas-ified.", I mumbled.

"Who-ified?"

"Lukas, this dude I met in our college. He's sitting right behind Anahi...", I whispered, barely audible.

Harold turned his head, looking at the dirty-blonde male.

"Why hello there, sir.", Harold said cheerfully.

"Hello...", His voice sounding a bit monotone.

Something happened to him, something bad. He has never been monotone in the little while I had known him. I felt emotions boil inside of me, so many I couldn't count.

I felt glad to hear his voice again. I felt sad, because he sat with Kaylee, and hadn't talked to me in over 30 minutes, and still hadn't. I felt angry because he wouldn't tell me anything, yet he told Kaylee.

Were they more acquainted then I thought?
