Chapter 16 - What If...
Arron's POV
After I got back from the store I didn't see Cade. I knew this was where I had left her. I just knew it. I was beginning to think I was in the wrong alley when all of a sudden I heard a whimper and a tiny, weak voice say "Luke". At that point I knew it was Cadrian who was whimpering. I rushed towards the naked, slightly bloody figure which didn't look a thing like Cadrian but at the same time, I knew it was her. I didn't want to believe what I knew all too well had happened, but how could I deny the fact that my best friend had just been raped while I was 100 feet away? That's just it, I couldn't. I knew it was my fault. I knew I shouldn't have left her in that alley all alone. I sat her up and positioned her so she was between my legs, resting on my chest. A couple people walked by, teenagers. They looked at Cade then up to me. However they just kept walking probably assuming the worst, that I was the rapist. That's when I realized that the skinny jeans and black hoodie along with her undergarments were ripped to shreds a couple feet away. I pulled off my shirt, carful not to disturb her, and placed it over her head. I maneuvered her arms though the sleeves and pulled the hem down as far as it could go. It went down to her knees do to the fact that she was less than 100 pounds and about five feet tall. How could anyone do this to a girl so small and innocent looking?! I was furious and I knew it was my fault for leaving her. As if on que she wiggled a bit so that she was turned on her side, still leaning against me, but in this position she could look up at me. She whispered, "It's not your fault." She swiftly fell asleep as I was looking deep into her blue eyes.
We needed to get out of this place, and fast. So, I scooped her up into my arms and grabbed both of our bags.
-A couple hours later-
By now we were deep into a forest, far away from anybody. I leaned against a tree, Cade leaning against my chest once again. She was still bleeding a bit from...well you know. So, I told her to just keep my shirt on and not waste a pair of her clean clothes. She hadn't really said anything. I didn't push her to explain anything. I mean, there was no reson for her to have to relive the experience. We both knew what happened. I would always be there if she wanted to talk though. "Do you want to talk about it, Cade?" She visibly stiffened and her breathing quickened. To my surprise she let out a sigh and asked me the one question I didn't know how to answer. "What if I'm pregnant?" I really wasn't prepared for that. I mean it was definitely a possibility. I mean, I knew they were human by the smell that was all over her. If they were werewolves there would be no point in worrying about that because a female wolf can only be impregnated by one special wolf, their mate, or another human. I had just avoided thinking about it until now but it was a big possibility. I didn't really want to answer her but I did anyway, "Then we will deal with it." I knew her well enough to know she wouldn't want to keep it. She knew what I meant, I would take her to the clinic myself either that or we would find a way. She seemed satisfied with my answer and mentioned, "My wolf won't talk to me and won't let me shift, Arron." Although I couldn't see her face I knew tears were streaming down her face. "We will deal with that as well, baby." I don't know why I called her that but it seemed to comfort her because she purred a bit with content and fell asleep in my arms once again.
Cadrian's POV
I was woken by Arron. He was whispering in my ear and shaking me slightly. I was still in the same position as I was when I fell asleep. I knew Arron was probably getting stiff so I stood up and tested out my sea legs. I was not prepared for the ache that coursed through my body. I stumbled a bit towards a nearby tree I grabbed onto the slim tree and held myself up. I felt a hand on my back and another holding onto my arm making sure I didn't fall. "Woah, take it easy, you're not wonder woman ya know." I turned around holding onto Arron. I gave a painful smile and said,
" You're right," I used my best deep voice and finished with, "I'm Batman!" We both burst out laughing. "Ahh!" I screamed as I clutched my stomach.
"Ok, let's lay off the jokes until you're healed." Arron gave me a sweet smile and sweeped me up into his arms. Before he left the clearing we were in he grabbed his red backpack and my black one. He carried me to another clearing, much like the one we had been in before. The only difference was that this one had a small river running into a medium sized lake. He sat me down on my feet but still kept an arm around my waist, probably making sure I didn't fall again. "I found this place while you were asleep." Arron said, "I thought you might wan to clean up." I nodded and we both stripped down which was pretty easy for me since all I was wearing was Arron's shirt. I was in the water before he even turned around so he didn't see me naked. It really wouldn't matter if he did though. I mean he had to have saw me naked when he found me in the alley. I was still bashful about it though so I made sure to get to a deepness that covered everything. Thank the moon goddess that he kept on his underwear though! He waded over to wear I was but kept a safe distance away from me and started rinsing his hair. I followed suit and cleaned myself. When I was finished I made my way back to the edge of the lake and got out. I looked back to Arron to make sure he wasn't looking. He was still wading in the water, obviously enjoying himself.Once I was sure he wasn't going to turn around I stepped completely out and rummaged through my backpack, sorting through the few clothes I managed to get in my bag. I settled on jean shorts and I put Arron's tshirt back on. I turned around to see Arron still swimming around so I took this opportunity to organize my bag. I started by dumping everything out and folding ll the clothes I had and put them back into the biggest pocket. Then I sorted through the food Me and Arron had collected. I ripped open a pack of peanuts and devoured every last grain of salt. I hadn't realized how hungry I actually was. I wanted to eat more but I knew I needed to ration what little food we had so I stuffed the rest into the medium sized pockets. That was pretty much all I had besides a picture of my family when we were together, happy and no one was dead. I zipped up my bag and looked over the ground to make sure I hadn't missed anything. I saw something shine in the light of day that was left, which wasn't much. I took a closer look and realized it was the necklace that my mate had given me. I picked it up and held it up to the sun, staring at it. I walked to the edge of the lake ready to through it in the cold water when a hand snatched it from me. I turned around to see Arron who was fully dressed. I hadn't even noticed him get out of the water. I took the necklace and unclasped it. He rested his hands on my shoulders while he relapsed it around my neck. This reminded me of the day when I went to return this very necklace. I remember it like it was yesterday and not actually a month ago. I wondered if he had marked another female yet I also wondered if he had killed himself over me. That made me tear up a bit. I was immediately comforted with a huge hug from Arron.
